#1 Alternative to Jaguar power steering rack for RHD S3

Post by jivili » Sun Nov 15, 2015 8:06 pm

I need to find a steering rack solution that is RHD for my S3.
Owing to a courier mishap I no longer have the original lhd unit so I am currently up the creek without a paddle
The only one I can find is @ ?1200 and I baulk at paying that price.
Not bothered about 'originality' just need a solution.
I have been doing a bit of digging and wondered if it is possible to modify a rack from either a triumph stag/2500 or a Ford Sierra.
Has anyone successfully modified a rack and if so can you let me know what works

Hard luck. I think you've got 12 paddles but no rudder.

Wild guess would be to try Series XJ part numbers. Have a feeling many cars are going to use racks behind the wheels and those will rotate the wrong way even if you could mount the rack.

What about electric power steering conversion? I guess those may not include the rack?

Maybe you can find a RHD-rack in Germany. Some cars with RHD have been changed to LHD-cars. You have to develope an internet searching-strategy to find one.

?1200 later and problem solved
Rack has been reconditioned and pressure tested and came with the pump, mountings and new pipes so the rebuild can continue.

I noticed this subject too late. I think there are one or two NOS (even RHD) still available in ancient parts businesses in Sweden. The demand for parts for classic Jaguars in Sweden is limited - most of us buy from GB. However, here are maybe two to four old parts dealer with old stock of parts still on the shelf. Even for SS-cars!
