#1 Is this Jag the real deal?

Post by SS-JAGUAR » Wed Aug 24, 2016 7:34 am

Hi all,

I am buying this Jaguar E-Type and I am not too familiar with how these vehicles are supposed to look. This Jaguar I am looking at is a 1972 and I was wondering by the pictures does it look like the engine that these Jaguars are equipped from the factory? Also, what do you think is up with the quad exhaust?

Just by the looks of it and knowing that it runs how much do you think I should buy it?

Thank you

Hi

On the face of it, it looks quite original under-bonnet for a S3 - perhaps a more trained S3 person could confirm? The quad exhaust is non-standard but there were two types of exhaust offered on the S3 E-Type. The distinctive "fantail" exhaust and a two-pipe version (Apologies, I'm not massively in the know with the S3!) I would imagine it's a case of finding a new exhaust set. Looks like a lovely car however! What happened to the bonnet? :/

Hi....very basicaly there are 3 types of e type, known as a series 1, 2 ,3 the first two have the smaller 6 cylinder endins with tripple carbs, a fairly straightforward engine to work on....the 3rd type that you show has the v12 engine with 4 carbs basically twice as big and more complex, they are usually cheaper to purchase...the exhaust shown, 2 sets of twin pipes is non standard....re price....you need to search similar cars for sale in the US ans take into acount condition..search for V12 e type for sale

Once you have decided on the model that interests you buy one of Pete Crespins books before going any further: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_no ... er+crespin

hello from Seville
if i understood it right, the first two years ( 1971 and 1972) the Series III with V12 engine received this Quattro-exhaust tip.
1973 and 1974, the two last years had a dúplex exhaust tip.
The engine looks clean and o.k.
But as David told You, read first the book of Peter Crespin, it will show You important things to have in mind, before You fall for a Lyer. Most tecnical parts can be found, but if the chassis has rust, You must be aware, that´s the the most expensive part of a restauration. The phrase is true: buy the best E-Type, you can afford.

OK, thanks all for the information. So the engine looks like the original engine it's supposed to have? not some kind of modern V12 engine pulled from like a 1990s Jaguar XJS?

How about contacting the JCNA (Jaguar Club North America) to see if anyone local to you could look at the car with you?
