Hello,
I have compared my different E-Type V12 and unfortunately one of them has NO air scoop fitted on the lower side of the bonnet.
I have ordered from SNG Barratt the air duct lower panel assembly BD38888, and both air scoop brackets BD38889 and BD38890 + also the air scoop moulding BD39575.
My question now is how it should be fixed? Riveted or welded?
Thank you and best regards from sunny Valencia
Carlos

Looking at Monocoque Metalworks restoration of one, it appears to be spot welded in along the rear and I can just make out a bolt on the side flange.

Mine is bolted in at the sides and was spot welded at the rear but I ripped mine out soon after I got my car and it may have just been done that way by the repairer.

Carlos,
Those air scoops are spot welded to the rear section on the lower panel, along the inner edge and the upper outer edge where it angles upward.(Near the Stone Screen)) The sides are just bolted in by 4 bolts. The addition to the air scoop are 2 angle pieces that carry on from the air scoop to bonnet vents.
I would say yours has rusted along the inner edge, then they removed in total.
To fix yours with out welding would be when you have the new one, would be just to pop rivet along that top edge where it starts to angle up, you would only need 4 or 5 rivets as the strength would be still be there from the original, unless thats rusted out of course, you have to be wary when doing this not to drill through the wiring harness that runs under there for the front electrics.
Cheers John

Mine was spot welded at the rear in two rows as well as at both sides. No reason to think this is not factory, so I repeated when replacing it.

Mine weren't spotted on the sides, just bolted, but I thought it was pretty stupid not spotting them on the sides as the rear is pretty solidly attached with spot welds. After seeing yours and the location of the spot welds I will be spot welding the sides as well after I fabricate the scoop.
Maybe they forgot to do it, but then again, I did only have one thermostat in the engine as well. So go figure!.
