#1 series 3 steering wheel replacement

Post by jivili » Sat Oct 08, 2016 10:04 am

Hi
I have an original series 3 steering wheel that I would like to replace as I am not a big fan of its look or its feel
Any suggestions for a better looking replacement?
I would ideally like a wooden wheel as the earlier marques but the thin rim on most of these puts me off.
Alternatively has anyone actually fitted a leather cover on the original wheel that fits and doesn't look naff?
Regards
Dean

I fitted a dished Moto-Lita 13.5" steering wheel to my OTS. Should rather have gone for a 14" wheel. Did not feel like I had sufficient control with the small wheel at high speeds (10mph or more)

Check out Moto Lita. They make a steering wheel that looks exactly like original, but has a big fat leather grip....picture original on steroids !! Looks great, feels even better !!

Special order 14-inch Moto Lita with thicker wood rim and dark wood finish. ...... perfect IMO.

A friend has a Moss Motors leather cover on his Etype Series 3. I really does change the look and feel of the steering, and is a much cheaper option than Moto Lita, and preserves the originality of the car, and improves the look and feel.

Two options: the Motolita wheel, as has already been suggested, or the rather splendid Nardi wheel Eagle fitted to my V12. Its all down to individual preference.

I had this MotoLita lying around waiting to be used. I like the thin rim and small diameter, but that's a matter of personal taste. I also reduced the power steering pump pressure to get less assist and more feel.
