#1 SU fuel pump electronic upgrade

Post by MarekH » Tue Oct 24, 2017 1:16 pm

I have made an upgrade the SU fuel pump using a printed circuit board to stop points corrosion due to arcing.

SU fuel pump points typically corrode due to arcing from the high currents being switched during normal usage. This printed circuit board is interposed into the circuit and uses the points to feed a transistor to do the switching, reducing the current through the points by up to 100 fold and thus eliminate the arcing.

No soldering is required as the connections are made by reusing the current terminal posts in a new configuration. It is completely invisible once the end cap is put back on.

V12 cars use a twin SU pump and so one upgrade kit per pump is required.

Comprehensive instructions are included.
Postage (from UK) not inluded.

Hello Marek, checked my fuel pump and there is a condenser fitted. Does this make any difference to fitting your upgrade?

Thanks

No, it'll be surplus to requirements. It is there as a snubber to reduce the current inrush at the points.

kind regards
Marek

I have just fitted Marek’s pump upgrade, and it’s working as advertised. His instructions are detailed with clear photos.
It’s just as well I did the job at this time, as the points in the pump were quite pitted, the very symptom Marek’s mod is designed to reduce.
I’ve cleaned them up and will be interested to see how they look in a years time, perfect I’m sure.
Thanks Marek for a good idea

Thank you.
Given that a set of points costs 2/3 of what the upgrade costs and fitting them is roughly the same effort, it is a no-brainer for everyone to fit these if their points are anything but brand new.
kind regards
Marek
