#1 DVLA Problems registering my US e type
Hi all I was wondering if anybody could help me I've just been refused a registration with the DVLA as I haven't given them everything which I thought I had please read the attached letter from the DVLA to see what you guys think?
And also is there anybody out there in Suffolk or near Suffolk that could inspect my car from the Jaguar enthusiasts club or the Jaguar Drivers Club that will help it on its way with the DVLA.
Many Thanks In Advance
Des.

Hi Des
The Texas Certificate of Title (equivalent of our V5) should have come with the car when repatriated. If you don't have it and you imported the car yourself it may still be with the your shippers, otherwise try the person you bought it from or failing that contact the Texas Department of Transportation, Vehicle Titles and Registration Division.

HI.... everyone it's all good now I got my new registration plate and log book today but I want to put on my personal registration plate so when I tried to do it online they said I can't change it unless I've got an MOT certificate that bit I don't understand because I don't need an MOT it is over 40 years old but the DVLA are telling me I need an MOT certificate to transfer my personal plate onto the car but they gave me a age related plate straight away even though I haven't got don't need an MOT.... has this happened to anyone else? i.e. personal plate on a over 40 years old car I need MOT which I didn't think I needed one?

Hi, I need to register my US import. I have the original title and the forms from the DVLA but was under the impression that I would need at least an initial MOT ( even though it’s exempt by age) . Are you saying that yours didn’t need this MOT in order to get the age related number?
Thanks
Tim
Thanks

I am putting a personal plate on a US import Mercedes. Any car more than 40 years old needs an MOT for first UK registration, after that it is exempt. It is more to check the headlight direction and other lights and things.
As far as putting a personal plate on it goes, you cannot do this on-line as you car is over 40 years old, you have to send off the V5, retention certificate (signed) and the MOT to DVLA by post. You cannot even go and visit your local DVLA office to do it, as they have shut them all down now.
So I had some temporary plates made up whilst the transfer happens, then I can put my lovely Framptons black and white plates of in a week or so (hopefully).

I don't know if the same system is still in place but twenty years or so ago my boss bought an old ford pop to transfer the reg to his new merc. The authorities insisted that both vehicles must be taxed, insured and mot'd in order to make the transfer. This meant I got to drive a brand new 5 series in the week and a 1955 popular at the weekends until we could get it down to the official appointment.
Maybe you got the original plate simply because you registered the car and they had to give you one. When you tried the transfer, you need to comply with the other set of rules and have a road drivable car?
John

Yes I thought that too but they sent me my log book through without a MOT Certificate needed so that's why I'm scratching my head about why I need a MOT now just to transfer my private plate from the year related plate they have just given me.
