#1 Front Screen Side Trim Fixing

Post by Rteyp » Wed Aug 29, 2018 9:40 am

Hi All

First of probably many questions.

Right hand front trim was incredibly lose and heavily scratched so ordered a replacement from SNG Barratt as this sort of detail annoys me.

Can anyone advise on how these should be fitted ? What black adhesive do you recommend ? I have searched for information but couldn't find. Thank you.

Sikaflex 221 which can also be used to fill in the gap which inevitably develops between the bottom spur and the rest of the screen surround . If you need to take the trim off again, Sikkaflex softens with a hair dryer

Thanks Chris - just ordered some of that.

Fitting I presume is a case of the top and bottom flange stick over the screen rubber and the long side piece tucks under the rubber where possible ?

Pics of a correctly fitted one appreciacted for reference.

Thanks

John, be aware that some (not necessarily this piece) can be a poor fit. What people will often do is have the old part re-chromed.
BTW did you ask SNGB for a copy of their parts catalogue, a very useful reference?

Wow thank you all - I have the parts catalogue from previous owner and yes its a great source of information.

Thank you Polse for the reference photos - perfect. Looks like I have some lifting of the rubber to perform.

Just to echo the post above re the quality of fit of the repro trims, I’ve just fitted a set of SNG roadster screen chromes and they are very poor, I will be hunting out an original set to re chrome in the future, if your originals fit nicely I would find a decent chrome restorer and get them done rather than go for repro.

Thanks all. Any recommendations for a refurb / chrome company in Herts. Looking on the web there are some in Herts but reviews seem mixed, a recommendation would be good - thanks.
