Hi,
My door frames are fitted with rubber/felt window channel:

Not felt as stated in the parts book. I don’t know why this would be the case other than perhaps my car is fitted with later frames.
My question is that in the top rear corner of the frames where the two channels meet, there is a strengthening piece in the frame.
The original (to mine) rubbers have a gap between them where this strengthening piece is, which in my view would cause a draught.
I am in the process of fitting some new channel, however I am struggling to fit the new channel neatly and cannot reduce the new rubber in such a way that it would cover the strengthener and not get in the way of the window. The walls are too thin to cut down.
Did Jaguar have this gap as original or is it the work of a PO?
Thanks,
Paul

The original rubbers on mine were in tatters Paul so I don't know what factory fit was for those top corners. But I did cut away some of the new seal, on the inside only AFAICR, and I don't think you need worry about draught if the seal is left intact round the circumference (as there are plenty of other sources of wind noise...). I also think the rubber/felt will compress with use so you may have more space to play with than first appears.

Thanks Jeremy,
I intend to fill the gap if it is not considered original; I have several spare pieces of rubber that I can experiment with to see how best to get a good fit.

Like you I was keen to fit the rubber channel right into the corner to try and eliminate any gap.
I found on my S2 that with its combination of glass thickness, frame width and new rubber/felt there was enough clearance to fit the rubber channel as normal right into the corner to butt up against the vertical piece of channel. I then held the sides of the rubber channel to the strengthening piece in the frame you refer too with a drop of superglue to hold the rubber just long enough to wind up the glass and trap the rubber channel in place. I left the glass wound fully up for a few days to compress the felt and it's been fine ever since.

Hi John,
I did much the same as you did in the end, but I ground down some of the thickness of the rubber first, where the strengthening pieces were, so it would slot in easier and then I superglued it in place.
Seems to be ok now.
Thanks,
Paul
