Dear colleagues,
again I'm confused about my E.
Today I have tested the fuel pump of my E V12.
The body has two markings: Top and Out (in this picture on the top of the die cast body, below the sheet metal dome).
I thought that out means that "out" is the outlet port that has to be connected with pipes to the carburettors and that the port below is the inlet which will be connected to the tank.
But my pump works the other way around.
Out has to be connected to the Tank an the lower port to the carburettors.
Might be the pre owner has assembled it in a wrong way.

I have the same pump and installed it almost 8 years ago and can not remember what I connected to what. That said, I'll bet the I did it the way that you want to and what seems most logic.

Hi Sven....there is a one way valve in the pump if it is not a new pump and has been dismantled in the past i think its possible to reverse the valve position......either use as it is or dismantle and have a look.....if its brand new then contact the supplier....Steve

Hi,
I think it has been "repaired" by the pre owner. Might be that this is one reason why he couldn't get the car running again.
I will install a new electronic SU pump from Burlen.
If I find time I'll disassemble the old one and take a look at the one way valve.

time to close this post.
Today I have disassembled the pump and found:
1) 1 pump chamber half filled with dirt from the tank because the pre owner drove without strainer
2) points on one side out of order because the axis for the point has been installed in a wrong way
3) one way valves on one side installed in a wrong position
4) one one way valve broken
And still the pump delivered some fuel (if outlet is connected with the tank)
No wonder that the pre owner couldn't get it running properly.
I still can't believe what this guy did to the car.
Next will be to take the tank out for cleaning.
