Pictures of your stolen E-type for a news story in Classic Cars magazine

I had my two E-types stolen at once from a shipper's warehouse in Cambridgeshire. They were seen 4 days later near Harrogate, one in pieces, partly loaded into probably the same black Toyota pickup that towed them away from my place to the shipper's premises. To think I lent him a charged battery because his trailer winch battery was dud... By the time the Police got a warrant next day, the cars had gone as they knew they had been spotted. This all happened in 2012, however...

Classic car theft Sadly does seem to be on the up at the moment , but the more publicity the better . You really do have to expect your classic to be stolen every time You leave it and really think where and when you leave it ? Sort of keeping yourself on your toes , trying to think like a classic car theif will help

I also think the often voiced “probably in Eastern Europe now” is an easy opt out for those investigating such thefts. Personally I think with a ready E bay market for E type parts, the answer is much closer to home. A quick coat of primer and you’ll get £3k for a bonnet, 1k for a couple of doors, £2.5k for SU carbs, seat frames and runners, tunnel cover, dash, pedals, steering column and rack another £3.5k....
That’s £10k before you have even started and all hard to trace parts. Depending on the car you could easily have £30k or £40k return for a few hours work with a low loader, a lock up and a pay as you go 4G mobile.
Given that according to the latest statistics released “91% of crimes do not result in a conviction” the chances of being caught are pretty slim.
A sad state of affairs really.
