#1 Lucas PL700 Headlamps

Post by ysmalkie » Tue Nov 06, 2018 7:56 pm

I managed to buy 2 pcs of Lucas PL Headlamp lens - the 54520293.
The lens is a part of the 58663 headlamp, specified as LHD for all countries except France, Austria, Sweden & US. Suits me, as being in Poland, I am in the clear. (not that there was ever an e-type delivered new to Poland... )

Anyway, I bought 2 lenses in original packaging and they are somewhat different: Can anyone tell me which one is more 'correct'?:

Interestingly, the par no of the glass lens (556468) is the same on both, but more clear on the silver backed unit.

My RHD originals have the bronze rear finish like the one on the right in your photos. The 1962 Lucas catalogue in our KB may be of some help: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iw1zc7525r742 ... 2.pdf?dl=1

Thanks David.

I wonder if the silver one is not actually older..

The bronze light is older and the box with the black background and white lettering is older. The silver is newer and the box with the orange background and black lettering is newer.

I believe my car's lights are original and they have bronze coloured back (March 1963)
