#1 Front lamp connectors, white plastic vs. bakelite

Post by Durango2k » Wed Dec 12, 2018 10:00 pm

All,

I received an SNG parcel today, I did order the front bonnet wiring loom.

Sadly, the main headlamp connectors are white plastic - and not bakelite with a centre rivet plus a rear disc.

Would you swap them ? How to clean the old (greenish) contacts inside ? It seems I have to open the rivet, but this can be solved.

Call me an anorak, but...

You can't see them once assembled.

If you really wanted to clean the old ones I would put them in an ultrasonic cleaner with 25% by volume vinegar and a good squirt of dish washing detergent.

If I use acid (of any kind) to clean them, would not some of the acid stay in the edges, and it‘ll deteriorate fast ?

Not if you neutralise it after. Use ordinary milk which will neutralise both acid and alkali, but then you need to rinse it well, else it may get smelly

You can drill out the rivet and dismantle. A M3 bolt and nylock but serve to fix it together afterwards.
