#1 s3 starter motor removal

Hi Rob Gill here,
I am in the process of removing my starter motor, access is very limited ,any one had experience doing this task? :scratchheadyellow:.

Hi Rob....helped a friend on his S3 a long while ago so may be getting confused with my S2....access panel on driver side of tunnel to get to the bolts..and remove clutch slave pipe.....then wiggle it out....if you just look at it you will think there is not enough room...but it will come out.....Steve

Hi
I agree on removing the tunnel access panel. I don’t remember the clutch line being an issue.
I also removed the battery and it’s support box.
If you are removing the starter due poor performance, check out the geared starters available.
Half the weight
Faster cranking
Lower current draw
Half the size.

Except that on some the tooth pitch is not an exact match to the flywheel so, while they may initially appear to work, they eventually chew teeth leading to expensive repairs.
