Cable protector in footwell on Series 2, but not 2+2
#1 Cable protector in footwell on Series 2, but not 2+2
Hello All,
It appears that the Series 2 cars had a cable protector in the left side footwell as a conduit of some sort. By going through the parts lists it seems that the 2+2 didn‘t have it, which can only mean that harness was routed differently. Is this correct?
The part is number 37 on the image here.

Hi Carsten,
BAS has it in their catalogue for Series 2 OTS and Coupes, but not for the 2+2. I guess there‘s nothing wrong with installing one in a S2 2+2, to hide and protect the cables. Pappkarton (cardboard in english) sounds a bit flimsy. Could you provide dimensions? Then I could have on made from thin alumin(i)um. Thanks,
Chris, in Germany

Hi Chris,
I think I already fitted it, and it was not easy, so I am a bit reluctant to remoove it.
Maybe someone else has a loose one?

No problem, Carsten. I‘ll just order one through BAS. They seem to be the only ones who stock it these days.
But can anyone explain why it was not used for the Series 2 2+2?

If I do not forget it I‘ll take a few pictures from it in „mounted condition“, and its the re-used original part...

Hi Chris.....the part for the fhc is shown here on the sng web page......the same page for the 2+2 shows the part as no longer available....https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/Englis ... cb4d53f0c1
My 69 2+2 has the protector rivited to the side panel.....could it be that it was all under one part number(panel & protector)...my protector is a different shape to the one shown in the link......its more hocky stick shaped with the curved end faceing the passenger seat........Steve

Hi Steve,
thanks for that information. It looks as if the 2+2 certainly also had it. I haven‘t decided yet which one I‘m going to order. Maybe an original hockey shaped one will show up on eBay, who knows?

#13 Re: Cable protector in footwell on Series 2, but not 2+2
Thanks to everyone for helping here. I do believe the cable protector was installed on the 2+2 but is simply not included in the parts lists, for whatever reasons.
Chris Rooke also shows this in his book on pages 226 and 228, with detailed pictures, which are also very helpful.
I‘m intrigued by Casten‘s comment that his is folded cardboard (Series 1 2+2). There‘s a metal one on ebay right now for auction. I‘m going to try to get that one.

Thanks for those pictures, Carsten (Hope you didn‘t have to dismantle it again to take them). It surely matched your previous description of folded cardboard. In the mean time I‘ve found mine, which is also folded cardboard covered in black vinyl, although the interior was suede green. Mine is in really bad shape. I‘m not sure if mine can be fixed.

I had to take it out whilst searching for the front right indicator power supply, hence the opportunity for a set of pics for you. I had to dig in this area....deep.
I think suede green leather did come with GREY vinyl, as you can see on the side protector, my car did. I think my seats were actually grey, but as the PO did paint them with a black rattle can, well, I tore the leather of and in the bin it went.
I was lucky enough to find a set of "black" seat covers from an S1. Sadly the rear side was vinyl not velours (as it should have been), but I choose to ignore that, plus they were not black but again "painted" suede green.
I re-newed the "paint" on the via the Lederzentrum.de product range, but sometimes a green shine appears. Its ok for me. And I re- did the rest of the car in black vinyl, so its all ok now. Just VERY dusty....
