Back when most cars had belt driven fans that was a high risk behaviour for a cat. It was a very common thing for cats to crawl up behind the radiator in the winter to find a nice warm spot after a car was parked. We would always bang on the hood (bonnet) before getting in the vehicle to start it in the wintertime.

And I believe cats also liked the warm rear diff of a lorry to sleep on. When the lorry moved off, they could fall off and be hurt or worse. When I was a child we found what we thought could have been such a victim, with a broken jaw and in a right mess. We had her patched her up and she became the most loyal friend for over 10 years...

We have the same issue here - only with snakes - they also like the heat of a nice warm car.

Here's one photo I took a few years back which I treasure. The cat on the hood of the XKSS. It always reminds me of the old Esso adverts "Put a tiger in your tank"!

To be fair, although I don't know him personally, through many years of reading Auto Italia I know of Roberto - he's one of the best current motoring journalists around, a pretty decent racer in his own right, has driven more Italian cars (road, race and rally) than you can shake a stick at, and owns (or perhaps owned) a particularly stunning example of one of the few cars to regularly beat the E-type back into second place for the title of 'Most Beautiful Car Ever Made'
I would be inclined to treat his first post as genuine and disregard the XKE Data thing.....
