#1 Has any got one of these please?

Post by Steve1967 » Tue Mar 19, 2019 4:21 pm

Hello, I'm trying to buy the correct Bonnet to heater conduit but seem to be struggling. The only one that SNGB supply has a much wider mouth where it attaches to the bulkhead. The one I need is as per this photo from the "original fit section". Has anyone an idea where I might be able to get one of these, new or a decent second hand one?

Thanks for your help.

Steve

I am being told by all the suppliers that the fresh air conduit shown in the picture is from a series 2 car. The photo - which is the one I sent them all - is from a series 1 car and lifted from the "Factory Fit" series 1 4.2 library in this very forum.

Please can anyone confirm which type I need on my car for it to be correct? I cant imagine all the suppliers are wrong but I also cant imagine that the car featured is incorrect either.

Certainly my bonnets holes indicate that the one in the picture would fit, but as the bonnet was a different colour than the rest of the car it clearly came from a different cat.

I would appreciate it if someone can confirm one way or the other for me.

The one in the picture seems to be unavailable anywhere so if anyone has one. I would love to talk to you.

Thanks in earnest anticipation!

Regards

I meant to say its a 1967 4.2 roadster sometimes designated as a series 1.5.

Thanks

Hi Steve,

I looked at SNG‘s S1 2+2 website because I have exactly the same problem - I need one of those items with a small inlet as well. The have a picture of it, and I am quite sure this is the correct item:

https://www.sngbarratt.com/de/#!/Deutsc ... a7ddeb246c

I think it is not that cheap at around 190 Euros, and its plastic which is not OEM (but they say it lasts longer)...and I am happy to be able to buy one anyway, much better then „no source“.

I bet if you spray it with a couple coats of black crinkle paint nobody would be the wiser as to it being a reproduction. I have had good luck with the VHT brand in the past.

Thats a very good plan. When I finished the car, hopefully this summer, and some cash becomes available, I‘ll do that. I have to get wrinkle paint anyway, because I need to make a Maserati carb cover plate anyway later this year, so it‘s a win - win 😁.

Hi Carsten, thanks for your post, and everyone elses.

Having pointed out that this part is off a S2 car I have now found it on the SNG Barratt website. Here it is:

Image

They appear to be out of stock at the moment and I am just waiting to hear when (if) they will be getting any more. I shall let you know.

I still don't understand why this S2 part is fitted to the very nice 1966 Opal Silver Blue S1 car as featured in the "Factory Fit" section. Does anyone know? There must be a good answer.

Mystified :questionmarks:

Cheers

One answer would be that in the life of the car the bonnet was swapped. Or only a part of it.

My bonnet was an S1.5 as well, small open headlights. Sooo maaayybbeee, the changeover in the factory for this specific item happened earlier. Both our cars indicate that.

If you want to earn eternal fame, take a few hours and scan yourself through xkedata‘s underbonnet pictures, and try to determine the point...when it happened.

:yeahthat:
Mine is an April 67 S1 and it has this intake. It also has the S2 clutch/brake pedal/master arrangement. All original. Just examples of the way the cars gradually morphed from one generation to the next over many months of production.

Hello, Steve -

Perhaps an OEM fresh air vent of the type you're looking for is in the following Ebay listing:

Sadly in the US. Shipping is expensive. What material is it ? If its not metal and the replica is „plastic but more solid“, only cardboard or something like that is left in my mind. Pressed wood particles plus glue from „The Midlands“ ?

Which takes me to the point wether it would be sensible to buy the ebay item... looks rough, plus if its wood or similar...hm.

Hello, Carsten -

The vendor informed me: "Plastic is the general consensus - They are really smooth inside."

Hello, Carsten -

The vendor just sent me the following note: "I have sold like ten of these. The restoration is quite simple, just clean them thoroughly and polish them if needed with some plastic polish like they use on boats. Remember they were nothing specially done to them when the car was original."

Steve

Have you tried Wilkinsons,
M & C Wilkinson Ltd
Park Farm, Tethering Lane,
Everton, Nr Doncaster,
South Yorkshire, DN10 5DR.

Tel: +44 (0) 1777 818061
Fax: +44 (0) 1777 818049
Email: mike@jaguar-spares-uk.co.uk

I had a similar problem and it seems with the upsurge in restorations on S1's that there were plenty of those to be had but none for S2's. However Wilkinsons did say they may have a couple removed from the race cars they construct
