#1 Hello from New Zealand's newest member
Hi all,
Last night my dream car of some 44 years (student days) was delivered on the back of a recovery truck, a January 1962, series 1, RHD, FHC. I have just retired and emigrated to New Zealand. Having been on the hunt for an early RHD FHC for renovation in the UK for a few fruitless years I found one that ticked many of my boxes on "Trade Me". The car was exported from the UK in 1968 and ended up in a garage for the last 25 years awaiting the never to happen restoration. The car has matching numbers, appears unmolested and to be complete except for a few trim items.
My intention is for the car to have a last nut and bolt restoration back to factory condition. I joined the forum 3 days ago and have already spent many enjoyable hours reading the excellent and detailed information from other members what a great forum. I look forward to communicating with forum members as the project progresses. I will take some photos this weekend and post for comments.

Keith, welcome to the forum, an absolutely invaluable source of help, advice, guidance and not a little bit of humour. Ask any questions even if they sound silly, we've all been there and gained from not only our own questions but as you've found from others. Nut and bolt will be very challenging, you might wish to consider a few compromises to make the job easier and even safer, like the headlamp relay upgrade.
Tell us more about the car, photos are great and the only thing people appreciate are the words, thank you, for anything you've really gained from.
All the best
Geoff

Welcome,
I echo all of the above endorsements for the forum.
Your car sounds like a great find. I’m coming to the end of a 3 year ground-up restoration of a 63 fhc. Are you planning on doing it yourself?
Regards
Richard

to the forum.
An unmolested 62 S1 FHC is a rare find and sounds a great starting point especially if you have the time to do the research and get it to the level you want especially if you can keep it original and find the missing servicable used parts to restore.
Wishing you all the best, pics please

Thanks for the warm welcome messages, photos now on my phone just need the wife to show me how to down load them (computers had punch cards when I was at university).
I have been instructed (by the wife) to get the car rebuilt by "a proper E type restoration business" as she recons I have enough on rebuilding our New Zealand Equine farm with 2 houses, 21 stables and best of all a 3000 sq ft garage/ workshop not to mention repairing and painting 8000 meters of four rail fencing. I recon I would have more fun getting more builders in on the farm and doing more work on the car but she recons I would be on the car for several years, lose whats left of my hair and make a second rate job of the restoration (probably right but i'm not admitting to it). I am now researching to find out who to approach to rebuild the car any direction would be gratefully received. I think I would be better finding someone in the UK as most parts and specialist skills etc.are more readily available there.
On a high note the wife has decided to sort out the tool roll etc. and has gone through the 2 (part complete) circular tool boxes that came with the car, made a list of what is needed to make up the tool roll and has started hunting for the missing items. Her first purchase was a jack from RM & J Smith Ltd (prompt service). Probably the most useful and desirable birthday present she has bought me in 35 years !
Regards
Keith

Greg, welcome on board. You can always start your own "Welcome" page and tell us more about you and your car. Good luck with the work you've given yourself and ask questions as the forum is a very friendly, helpful place.

Hi Guys,
Welcome to Jaguar world.
I’ve been doing stuff to my S3 for around 15 years, and there are plenty of top resto guys available down here in NZ.
We do have Beachams in the Hawke’s bay who are world class.
I had the mighty V12 partially rebuilt a couple of years ago, and would recommend Taylor Automotive in Auckland for any classic engine rebuild.
Replating we have experts in Auckland
Body work best by word of mouth.
Join the jaguar drivers club, they have tool hire.
Subscribe to NZ classic car magazine, most resto firms advertise in there.
Enjoy the ride
Mark
