1966 E Type Series 1 4.2 2 + 2 Auto
#1 1966 E Type Series 1 4.2 2 + 2 Auto
I have just purchased a 1966 Series 1 E Type 2 plus 2 4.2 Auto UK RHD, 15800 mile demo + 2 owner car. Chassis denotes it is number 20 produced. Is there some way of finding out how many of these are still around? I know its not the most desirable model but for me it was love at first sight! Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Paul

We know there were 671 RHD 2+2 cars built in 1966 but I have seen no record of how many of those were auto's. Total (1964 to 1968) S1 RHD 2+2's production was 1,379 and of these 370 (~ 26%) UK market cars were auto's.
If we project that percentage for the 1966 cars then yours would be one of about 174 auto's built. If you know the original colour we can get the number down further.

No, it is Cream. Old English White was only used on the S3 cars between 1970 and 1974. There were 2,541 cars painted Cream between 1964 and 1968 out of a total production of 22,922 - 11%.
if we apply that percentage to the previous 174 guesstimate then yours is likely to be one of about 20 S1 Cream RHD 2+2 autos that left the Factory in 1966.
You should add your car details to XKEdata.com; the car immediately after yours 1E50021 is on there: http://www.xkedata.com/cars/results/

I own 66 `uk RHD 2+2 (manual) which is at the moment going through nut/bolt restoration. original colour cream. I need to decide on colour as we going to paint it this year.

Down to what you like really. My '69 2+2 is in Cream with black upholstery (original colour). Not a colour I initially wanted, but I've grown to really like it and wouldn't change it now.

Yes, your car - your choice. Think of it as ordering new from the Factory and selecting your preferred colour. This thread has photos of almost all the available colours which should give you a start: http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5536
This thread lists the paint codes and dates they were available: http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13409
Stay with Jaguar colours for the year of the car. Changing the colour will not affect the value if you stick to that rule.

That interior looks lovely. Slightly aged, but not at all tatty or worn out.

Yes, it is the original interior apart from one small panel that had a tear.
