#1 Hello from North East England

Post by bill addison » Thu Jan 24, 2019 12:15 pm

I have just bought a 1962 FHC which has been used as a track day car since 1990 , its been stripped out and roll cage fitted it has a 4.2 in it a Getrage ? gearbox v12 discs and calipers this is how it was described.
My intention is to race it and build it up to FIA pre 63 spec .
Has anybody else built a pre 63 FHC FIA race car

Bill

Bill, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of very helpful and friendly people on here. Your particular needs will be more out of the day to day questions that are posed, but there will be some who can help.
How about some photos and more information? The more you give us the easier it will be for someone to help.

I certainly can't help at all regarding racing but hope you'll appreciate being on here.

If you search on here for "Getrag" you'll see quite a few comments about this gearbox.

Good luck

860233 not on xk e data. It would be a very early 62 car or even possibly late 61 build. Don't know much about racing but you may need to change back to a 3.8 and even, perish the thought, a Moss box depending on what you plan to enter and how rigorous the originality rules are for the particular series you plan to enter. If you have not already done so I would look at the regulations for the kinds of races you want to be in. Some you can do pretty much anything. Others you can't

Hi , I have the original Moss gearbox with matching numbers . I would like to find a 3.8 race engine to get it back to original and FIA spec ,if anybody can help ? I need new wheels for it, and would like some advice whether I can run alloy wheels and what width, or do I need to run wire wheels . the standard rear arches look tight for anything over 5 inch

Hi Bill,

I owned WGG 708 in 1967/1968 and the car was in standard trim.
It was registered 28th May 1962 and I purchased it some 5 years later.
I see it is now a track car which means it has changed somewhat over the years!

I would be interested in any pictures you may have of it.

Regards
Oliver Doherty

Hi and welcome , what you really need to do is work out what race series you want to compete in and contact the organising club and ask for s copy of there Regs , then you can reengineer your car to fit in there race series , i.e. your 5 Speed box may be alowed in some series others it won't, when you say , fia 63 spec , you may be thinking appendix k pre 66 , ( your typical Goodwood revival thing ) this is quite a strict series to be in and even stricter (read more near standard ) for FHC s . . So as I said find a race series and use that as your " race spec" aim . Regards Darren
Ps or sprint it , there be a class you can run it in as it is  but please change them wheels, even if it's to slots lol x

Hi
I am going to re build to homologation 34 which is pre 63 race car and pretty much based on a standard road car .
What I am looking for is a 3.8 donor engine to re build preferably from an e type straight port head and one with the short head bolts and triple SU carbs .
Any help appreciated .

The car is totally stiped bare metal and ready for some paint Carmen Red is our current choice but could change
We are Racing at croft this weekend ,Brands Hatch next weekend , then Cadwell Park, then Thruxton on 21st September,
If your anywhere near them look out for Team Addison Racing.
Regards
Bill
