#1 Cleanest Bum in the World. How Does this fit?

Post by politeperson » Sat Apr 25, 2020 7:35 pm

I dont go in for cleaning cars much, but cleaned the underside of OEW this afternoon.

The virus has obviously sent me mad.

How does the heat shield attach in-front of the center boxes?

Bracket off the gearbox?

A huge mystery.

Any picture please.

Hi Jame's, glad you're well and keeping busy.

Ref the heat shield, two fixings to the chassis rail and one to the gearbox mount as the pic....

Thanks Nick and Simon.

I am now clear on the two brackets that attach to thee chassis legs. Its the rear bracket that gets me.

The shield is supplied with a captive 5/16 UNF thread at the rear in the location of the silencers, What is it that screws into it?

I cant seem to find reference to it anywhere.

Any ideas? Simon, I think it is obscured in your picture.

James

It screws - or in my case was pop riveted - into a short metal strap (3 inches long?) that runs back to attach to the gearbox cross support/mounting.

James

Do you regularly use a fork lift truck to get under your car?

And - when I fitted the gearbox heat shield I puzzled over why it wouldn't fit for a long time and then discovered that the bracket arrowed by 288gto was assembled upside down.

Yes..... without wishing to seem too prissy about it , I thought that too , and lifting apparently on the silencer box ( with blocks above and below ) is creating a high risk of instability . I saw far too many accidents caused by short cuts, and urge people not to do it

Ralph - call me picky but that looks very much like an E type to me not an F type.

Yes Mike, the guy apparently misspelled it.
But the car looks watertight enough to stand a pressure washer treat!

Surely it's cheating if you start the process with a spotless car?!

I would have lent them mine for nothing!!
