Looks great Malcolm.

I am a big fan of the MWS products too - definitely the best wheel cleaning product I have used.

Cheers

Nice work!
I’ve just fitted a complete set of mws Chrome curly hubs On mine (with vred 185) and was wondering about a good cleaning product. I’ll get on their website!

This is the stuff I use Richard. Quite expensive, but lasts for ages. I'm into about year 3 with mine.

Hi Malcolm, does it get the grime out from all those places behind the spokes where you can't get your fingers in? And do you put any kind of protective wax on afterwards?
If it works as the instructions describe, it sounds like magic.

Jeremy, yes it does. You dab solution number one on with the supplied (or any other!) brush and leave it for 5 mins. This ensures it runs into all the tricky to get to corners. You then just hose it off and it comes up like magic. You let it dry, I rub off any "pooled" bits of water after a while, then apply diluted solution two which is a protective covering. This one, you don't hose off, just leave to dry. You sometimes get some light residue after drying, so just buff off.
It can be done with the wheels on, although best with them off so you can get to the backs. I do it once a year with wheels off, then just re-do when dirty with wheels on during the year. With wheels on, you can do all four in about 20 minutes/half an hour.
Once a year, with wheels off, I do also add some polishing on the main areas, and some carnauba wax.
The pictures in the photos above are with no polishing and no wax, just a 5 min before and after putting solution on and hosing off.

Looks great, count me in.

Vastly better than the Fix40 system that I was daft enough to try

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2136&p=94619&hilit=fix40#p94619

where I never dared to pursue with the "RimProtect" as the manufacturer wouldn't tell me what it did or
what the effect was over time ................

Image

......... nor accept any help to better-translate the crap instructions.

Funnily enough, they seem to have disappeared without a trace !

The conical brushes, however, used with a portable drill, were very good ............ anyone ever seen these on sale elsewhere ?

Rory

MWS sell those conical brushes too. Very good in a drill as you say.

One other (daft) tip I use for cleaning around the base of the spokes, where you can get stubborn stains, is a wooden chopstick with a piece of cloth. Saves the sore fingers.

And definitely a fan of the two products set Malcolm describes above so clearly.

Cheers
Ash

Like you Rory I bought the Fix40 stuff a couple of years ago but the lack of intelligible instructions and the rather brutal brushes discouraged me from getting into a long term relationship with it.
Whereas the MWS kit (arrived yesterday and I cleaned my wheels to celebrate) is excellent. Just be careful not to let the brush stray into the grease around the hub because it struggles to clean that off. But for brake dust and road grime it is superb.
