#1 Exhaust Fantails.

Post by AussieEtype » Tue Jun 23, 2020 5:49 am

When I bought my 1971 Series 3 in 1982 it had the twin fantail tip on the exhaust. I have just watched a vid on a very early Series 3 from close to the same build date as mine and it had the quad fantail.

Can anyone tell me what dates etc that each type of fantail was fitted from the factory - obviously they can be swapped around by owners but interested to know when each as fitted from the factory.

Thanks

Garry, from Clausager's Factory Original E Type:
From OTS 1S1741; 1S22046; 2+2 1S51657; 1S74662 in Feb '73 Exhaust with four tailpipes replaced by exhaust with two tailpipes.
There are a few other words as to which dates are correct but the book is a good guide to what happened in the development of the E Type, well worth getting.

Hope this helps

Thanks Geoff - seems to confirm my thoughts but I did think that they brought back the quad fantail very late in the production run in 1974.

Hi Colin - sorry but you are out of luck there - changed it out two exhaust systems and 35 years ago - I have a new quad fan to go on when I get my car back on the road.

Cheers
