Hello
My 1962 OTS is painted in Opalescent Silver Grey and I need some paint.
There are two tones of this Jaguar color.
Dark Ref: P031-2639M
Clear Ref: P031-3308M
There is a third color very similar to mine, the Silver Grey P031-2300M
My car is the clear tone of Opalescent Silver Grey Ref.- P031-3308M, and the problem that I have is that the my actual paintshop ( RM paint ), tells me that they can?t find the color because is very old, and they can?t do anything with the old reference, because now aday the paint is water base and they need and actual reference, for be able to prepare the correct matching color.
My car was painted 5 years ago with Sikkens paint ( no water base ).
I would really apreciate any help, because I have not the reference of this color in water base system.
Thank you very much in advance
Regards
Mario

I hope and wish you find soem relevant info to you through searching on other links he is providing.Absent on this list are "Imperial Maroon," "Opalescent Silver Grey," "Silver," and "Sherwood Green" ? and perhaps others I don't know about. Those colors are confusing to me and sometimes data is not easily available

Hi Phil
Thank you very much for your kind reply. I ready know about this web site, and it?s true that some colors references are not easy to find because are a lot of wrong infomation in some of the E Type specialist web sites.
The Opalescent Silver Grey has two diferents codes, Light and Dark.
The light one is very similar to the color named just " silver grey " but it?s diferent,. In most of the web sites that I have seen E Type colors references, none of them refers to the Opalescent Silver Grey in light reference, they quoted just the dark reference as the only one.
I obtain some information from an old ICI Jaguar color chart and they have correctly separated the Ligh Opalescent Silver Grey with reference 3308M and the Dark Opalescent Silver grey with reference 2639M.
Many E Type web sites quoted the " silver grey " reference as 3308M, that is the light reference of the Opalescent Silver Grey, and it?s a mistake, becasue colors are similar, but diferents, the silver grey reference in the ICI color chart is another one, It is 2300M not the 3308M as quoted in many of the E Types web sites by mistake.
I hope to resolve this mistery about color codes, and find soon the correct water base paint reference to match my car color.
Thank you very much

Hi Mario,
Today I have been to the bodyshop who are currently preparing my car for respray, the color I have chosen is Opalescent Silver Grey I wanted the darker shade so opted for P031-2639M they have had no problem in ordering this shade from their paint supplier in the non-water base paint.
I am no expert in any way on this subject, but an off the cuff remark from this company said that the exact "Opalescent" colours are not available in the water based system, I wonder if the problem lies with the bodyshop you are using who are not prepared to source or spray the old system of paint through their filters/booth for health and safety reasons and are only licensed to spray the water base paints. I am also on the understanding that its not good practise to mix the two systems anyway.
It might be a better route to contact a paint supplier yourself like www.autopaintsupplies.co.uk and ask if they can supply the P031-3308M color you require but in the old system.
The company I have given above supplied Golden Sand a couple of years ago to a friend of mine and I hope this might help you.

Hello Robert
Thank you very much for your explanation, and it is exactly as you said, the paint shop explained to me, that they can?t respray a car in the old system any more, due to the new filters in the paint chamber and also because the paint supliers can?t sale any more other paints bases diferent that water base under law restrictions.
I?m going to try in the company that you said. Thank you again
Best regards
Mario
