#1 Series 2 or Series 3 door pull handles?!
It appears that my ex.US Series 2 2+2 may have been fitted with Series 3 doors, at some time during it's life, as the fixing centres for the armrests/door pulls is 166mm, ie. considerably more than the Series 2 armrest fixings. Can anyone who owns a Series 3 please confirm that this measurement is correct?
Many thanks................Tim

Hi Tim,
Part numbers for S3 and S2 armrests and 2+2 door skins are the same.
Pictures are from my S3. Fixing centres are 5.5ins.

Thanks for all your help folks but unfortunately I am no further forward.
Aldridge Trimming have suggested that my car was probably fitted with "torpedo" armrests, but putting a post on the Forum has drawn a blank so far.
I have seen a photo in a BAS International trimming brochure of a Series 3 fitted with very pointed door pull handles, which could perhaps meet the "torpedo" description!
Can anyone shed any more light?
Thanks.............Tim

Hi Tim..they may be refering to the S1 2+2 armrests...possibly torpedo shaped...who knows what previous owners have fitted in the past...but your car a 1970 S3 should have the type that me and Bob have shown....Steve

Hi Tim,
S1 2+2 doors had a pointy armrest as did the S Type shown in the BAS catalogue. (My copy doesn't show any E Type with them fitted.)
S2 2+2 had no armrests until around the middle of August 1969 when the moulded type were introduced and then carried on into S3 production.
This is a S1 2+2 armrest but I have no dimensions for the mounting points:
This is the S Type one shown by BAS:
Looking back at pictures of my S3 doors, I see they have an unused mounting nut which could accomodate a longer armrest but I have not yet seen an original S3 with anything other than the standard moulded one fitted.

Thanks Bob.............pics are most useful. My S2 is April 1970, so one of the later ones and therefore could have been fitted with the "pointy" armrests.

Thanks for the advice, Steve.
My chassis number is P1R 43982 BW.
I looked on "XKE data" at a few cars either side of my chassis number and, apart from a few gaps, the interior photo's I saw didn't really shed a lot of light on the armrests. They all looked fairly normal!
Will carry on with my research.

Thanks Steve..............not really bothered what I have as long as they fit the 166mm fixing centres and don't look totally ridiculous!

Found a pic of the longer "pointy" armrest fitted to a Series 2 2+2, identical to mine.
Anyone have any idea where I can get a pair?
Tim
Have also included a pic showing a standard armrest (from Aldridge Trimming) showing how much shorter it is than my fixing bolt holes.
