Boot board rail rubbers
#1 Boot board rail rubbers
Hi all
Can you still get the rubber strips that go in the boot board rails?
And if so where?
Also
Are they supposed to be flat ended?
Mine are all flat ended
But I see some that come to a pointy end rather than a flat end
Thx for any answers
Joe

Hi,
Yes you can, as I replaced mine in my 63 fhc. I’ll need to check where I got them from though.
I seem to remember having to cut them to a point to locate correctly in the rails.

Both COH Baines & Woolies sell the rubber insert by the metre. Both good companies to deal with. COHB have a minimum order amount, but I don't think that Woolies do. As a matter of interest, I sourced all of my body seals from COHB, and I found them to be excellent quality.

Every time seals come up Baines are mentioned as having the best seals. Unfortunately they do not have an e type seal kit. How did you ascertain which of their seals are the correct ones? Is there a list somewhere online or is there some other method of determining?

Got mine from Woolies, also used their aluminium rails. You need to look very closely to notice they are not OE spec.

Found out the reference from Baines.
Could be useful for those searching:
https://coh-baines.co.uk/product/irs-16 ... ard-tread/
Regarding the attachment of the rails on the hardura mat: can simple pop rivets be used?
Also form what I noticed in painful taking off the old cracked rubber strips, is there a tip to insert the rubber once the rails have been riveted to the mat?

Thanks for all your replies
Going to just order the SNG rubber I think
And those split rivets

Check the parts book for your model. The S1 4.2 FHC has self-tappers rather than rivets from 1E.20117 (1965).

Yes, the bifucated rivets are used on early cars where the runners are riveted to a mat.
The later cars where the runners are fixed to the boards have self tappers.

Mine look like they were fixed with a few different fixings in the past
It looks like some sort of staples originally?
2 tiny holes about half an inch apart all the way down
Then there are screw holes or rivet holes
I guess the staples may have been used by jaguar for speed of fixing
Or am I wrong?
I looked at a parts book and it shows what looks like staples

Most likely right. I'm sure there's a story somewhere on this forum where it's reported that the fitters found it quicker to staple the retainers rather than screw them down.
