Made in Taiwan
#1 Made in Taiwan
Just had a delivery of some parts from my favourite supplier.
Don’t know why but I was surprised- maybe disappointed to see that they came clearly marked “ Made in Taiwan” .
Not saying that these won’t be of good quality and will do the job, had I bought via eBay then I would have probably expected this.
Now my question is that these are a bit of a bugger to get to shall I fit them or try to get genuine parts.

Sadly the globalists that have been running the west moved most nearly all the western industrial base to the Eastern economies
Was a good way to move our pollution to third world countries
Taiwan is just one of them but probably better than Chinese garbage
And likely the jaguar ones are made in the east somewhere as well
Sadly the outcome is nasty countries like China have become very rich and we have allowed them to take out technological advances in exchange for poor quality goods
Trump was trying to change things but they have managed to get him out
So expect more of the same poor quality

I bought new brake master/cyls from the usual supplier that turned out to be from Taiwan. I was concerned but they have been fine in use, so far.

As Abowie said, where do you think parts like these are made these days - there is nothing wrong with Taiwanese industry - for that matter, there is nothing wrong with Chinese parts as it is the businesses that commissions the parts are the fault - the Chinese just make to the standard and costs ordered. Along with the woeful stuff, a lot of high end stuff comes out of China - it just depends on who commissions it.

The more expensive choice of S2 bonnet lower valance, described as a Genuine part, I purchased, was such a rubbish fit to an unmolested bonnet, that we ended up cutting it up and using its components to repair the original panel; a very expensive parts source. Profoundly asymmetrical in profile and short on one side by close to 25mm. My take away from this experience, with body panels at least, is to buy the cheapest, nastiest bit of kit you can, as there is every possibility you will be faced with the same poor fit and the effort to make it fit irrespective.
It only had a two week from date of purchase warranty. It doesn't say much for the confidence they have in their parts.

Taiwan, officially is _the_ "Republic of China".
I think there is nothing wrong with parts made anywhere in the world, as long as they are made RIGHT.
Merry Christmas!

#14 Re: Made in Taiwan
My retraction forks ordered from Jaguar Classic arrived today.
Clearly marked “Made in Britain “ which pleased me!
What pleased me more is that the appear to be much closer in shape and size to those originally fitted ( I still have the originals)
The Taiwan reproductions look slightly thinner and more importantly the end forks that fit into the calipers are of a different shape.
All that said these Taiwan units may well be ok, but in my case they will be returned.
I will try to post some photos to show the difference.

Here you can see all three mounted !
Bottom one is the original, middle is the jaguar classic and the top one is the Taiwan copy.
The difference in the end fitting to the caliper is very visible

Possibly Steve but I don’t think so. I stupidly also bought some 3.8 ones only to find that the bolt hole spacing also differs.
These were non returnable soi put them on here for sale but no takers as yet.
