EOG 984 C

Hi,
this registration number has been neatly and deliberately scratched into the paint on the underside of my passenger seat.
Its not connected with my car. The previous owner knows nothing of a car with that registration or how the seat ended up in my car. That takes us back to before 1982.

I know its a long shot but does anyone know anything of EOG 984 C?

Not a car reg number on the DVLA website.

I think you may need to put your "Morse" hat on and come up with another solution....?

According to old classic car.co.U.K., EOG XXXC registrations were issued by Birmingham Council from October 1965. The OG suffix usually represents the county of registration, while the first letter sequentially changes as the numbers are used up. Numbers were often issued sequentially. The site also records that FOGXXXD numbers were issued in January 1967. From this, I think there’s a reasonable chance that the EOC 984C plate was issued in Birmingham somewhere around December 1965.

County records offices do have archives and can provide you with information on initial registrations and surrender cards (usually recorded when the car is scrapped). Warwickshire Council successfully retrieved records for my car and sent me a photocopy of the 1967 registration page in their ledger. I don’t know which councils were issuing registrations in the Birmingham area, so some detective work will be required to track them down and find their archivists. There is a nominal charge for these searches. I think it was about 10 quid when I did it back in 2016.

One caveat, I did my research before the GDPR regulations came in, so I don’t know how far you’ll get these days.

Hi Steve,
I do seem to remember, having lived in a Birmingham suburb all of my life, that OG registrations, also OA and VP were restricted to Commercial vehicle issue. Therefore it is extremely unlikely that EOG984C ever related to an E Type.
This changed I think, early seventies, when Commercials and Cars all used the same sequencing

As for GDPR, I assume that the Doomsday Book will now be a restricted document and we will no more be able to learn that Prince Fred of Whitley Bay owned 2 acres, 3 horses and a share in a pig.

This has all come about as during Lockdown I decided to trace the history of my car. I'm back to the owner 1976. Ive found the guy who rebuilt the engine in the early 80s and all sorts of other snippets. Fascinating.
But the connection to EOG 984 C has not been found...yet.

yep, as outlined that EOG has directed as a likely Birmingham area then start there. You maybe lucky.

as stated by others, I called the local Wolverhampton records office for my "LJW" reg and shock horror the archivist had the book right there !
Even he thought it had been digitalized and required a fee to access, a quick double check proved otherwise.

By memory they sent me the duplicate page for a Fiver some 4-5 years ago, very helpful / nice guy.

What is a joy is the rummaging through the other vehicles listed on the same day/week etc
