#1 Reversing light housing

Post by JimH » Fri Mar 05, 2021 6:41 pm

Hi my car has had a new boot floor fitted, there are no holes for the reversing light housing. Was it fitted with speed nuts and screws from the inside out? Should there be a gasket between it and the body?
Should I be trawling through the pages looking for answers instead of bothering you guys lol

This should give you an idea about fitting types:

No gasket between it and the boot floor.

I had the same question. It's a dreadful design, it allows water to flood into the light fitting under slipstream pressure. Question: is the enough forward slope to allow water to drain out when stationary?

Apparently, it seems that the electrical fitting works...
On this picture, you see that the voltage wire (here, on a 3.8, it is the 12 Volt negative black one) as well as the earthing wire (here the positive green/yellow one) are "suspended" in the center of the cavity, so in principle not in contact with water if there would be limited ingress:

And as you can see on this other picture, there are holes on the bottom of the light housing that allow water escape:

I bought a lens for the reverse light from 'you know who'.. And the drain-hole was located at the top..
