A search of the posts doesn't throw much concrete advice up regarding the early Kelsey-Hayes bellows fitted to the Series 1, and I've broached the subject at shows in the US and the UK to little effect.
Even with Coopercraft calipers and Green-Stuff pads on ventilated discs, my braking is indifferent ; it's lacking in feel, somewhat inlet-depression-dependant, and the servo is indifferent to any adjustment of the eccentric whilst requiring a conscious lift of the pedal to free it off properly - it's been like this for 5 years, but as a motorcyclist I was already quite good at upward foot movements .........
However, since the critical parts are impossible to source, I'm told, and the thing was never very good when new, I want to install something else rather than frig about trying to flog a dead horse.
Has anyone tried using a remote servo (remote servos ?) on these cars ? I would like to keep the appearance of the engine bay original rather than install/adapt more recent stuff, and it occurred to me that it ought to be possible to use indirect servos where the depression/hydraulic interface is located independently of the master-cylinder.
Any ideas anyone ?
Series 1 Kelsey-Hayes replacement ? Indirect/Remote Servo ?

Rob Beere does a 3.8 servo kit - I think Dave Kerr has one. http://etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2219
Twin ended servo for 3.8 and 4.2:

David,
Yes I had Rob Beere fit the remote twin servo to my car and there is quite a difference, the major difference is that although the braking is progressive you can always guarantee it will work unlike my Dunlop belows which worked intermittently.
The kit Rob sells comes with flexi pipes which go all around the engine as the servo fits near to where the 4.2 one goes. I am planning to change the vacuum pipe to a solid one and eventually do the brake pipes as well.
Since you cannot really see the twin servo and the Dunlop system is still in its original place everything looks standard.
Talking of the Kelsey Hayes servo were there two versions of this servo around? my servo says Dunlop no mention of Kelsey Hayes and the original spares kit I bought a few years ago is Dunlop.

Had seen the Rob Beere stuff but had assumed it was bulkhead-fitted, not remote. Looks perfect.
Perhaps the same basic componentry as these, retailing ?295 ?
http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/product/dual-remote-servo/
http://www.vwjim.co.uk/ourshop/prod_118 ... Servo.html
Will find out more and post results ; need to know whether this can be fitted in place of the original vacuum-tank, which solves the aesthetics, or whether that "damping" volume has to be maintained, meaning the servo has to be fitted elsewhere.

If you send an email to david@kerr2209.fsnet.co.uk I'll send you some photos of the set up. I can't post photos on here.rfs1957 wrote:Had seen the Rob Beere stuff but had assumed it was bulkhead-fitted, not remote. Looks perfect.
