#1 using a 2 post ramp/lift
Does anyone have a view on using a 2 post lift for working safely on an etype?, a well respected mechanic friend maintains he always works on etypes from his 2 poster and this is how it was done back in the day at Rossleigh where he served his time but I am very reluctant my car is an S2 roadster

I would be very wary indeed of working on an E from a 2 post lift. The problem is that the points at which one can safely lift are very limited on an E type , and the car needs to be balanced very carefully. Furthermore, no-one should ever have an E , or any other IRS Jaguar, on a 2 post lift without the rear suspension being supported

Hi John.....Just had a look on the net at some of the main jag restorers & there facilities with pictures of e types on 2 post lifts being used.....so the posts can do the job, however as chris says beware of the IRS just hanging on its mountings, However Ive visited some of the main jag workshops & saw plenty on jags on 2 posts without the IRS supported...Steve

Virtually always on 2 posters........the easiest way and the best for working on the car. Mines been up on 2 posts now for nearly a year.
I have a number of 2 post ramps available for sale if anyone is interested.

I might be interested in a two post lift if it is 240 volt. I presume the IRS could be supported on a transmission cradle while the car is in the raised position?

Thanks for the replies gents, Vipergts would you mind confirming the lifting points on the car which you use? My car will be back from bodyshop next week or week after and a good few jobs need doing!

Tony...They will come out of a fully functional workshop which we are stripping out. They've been regularly serviced and can be seen working.
John....Here's some pics but as heavy units such as engine and rear suspension get fitted you might need to adjust where the pick up.
At the moment I have the front pads resting on the front lower suspension arm pick up.

Thanks for the photos, used to working under Daimler Limousines so the concept of holding up heavy units held on only by Metalastik bushes is not new to me!, it is more the weight of the front end which give me worries but looks like it is an acceptable method.
