#1 FACTORY FIT - Series 2

One of the problems we have when restoring our cars (or replacing a component) is understanding exactly how the factory fitted them. We are adding 'stickies' for each model Series which will contain detailed photographs from the area of a car that the photographer believes to be untouched from when it was originally built. Over time, we hope to build a comprehensive resource for restorers to reference. If you have a photograph you would like to add, please send them via PM to any of the moderators (this will allow us to avoid any duplicates etc). Below is the link to the JCNA judging guides (these can be printed off and are a useful reference when trying to work out what colour to paint a component for example).

I'm just stripping a 1970 S2 FHC down to the bare shell ready for restoration. This car has never been apart and I will post detailed photographs in due course. A few things have surprised me regarding the construction:

1. No washers used under the front frame nuts and bolts.
2. Shakeproof washers were used just about everywhere on the body fittings.
3. The amount of sound deadening used was incredible! I need to revisit my car now!

Meanwhile, if anyone is restoring a S2 and wants a photo of a particular area, let me know.

Are repro tax disc holders like those available to put a vintage disc into?

Popped in to see Paul Brown the other day, just as they were removing this IRS from a very early S2. According to Paul it's on original discs?

On the third picture it looks as though the shocks have been painted and/or changed at some point. Red springs seem unusual too.

Discs are original type. Back end has been worked on in the past as evidenced by the butchered area on the lhs in the first photo. Shocks look red but spring could have red overspray as on the lhs alu hub.

Bit like mine. A 69 fhc.

I was able to keep the original finish as the condition was ok. In fact, I lacquered the diff cover. What a show off I am.

This is how it came off before cleaning.

Hi guys first post here.

Here in town we have an exceptionally low mileage and original SII chassis 1R8391. Featured is the LH side underdash where we can clearly see they grabbed some red grab on seals to finish the Upper Steering Column Mounting Bracket C17684.

Original fit isn't always the status quo.
