I've been fortunate to meet a few famous test pilots like Jeffrey Quill, and they are such similar characters. An attitude of yes we can do something, so let's get and do it.

Norman Dewis seems like a really nice guy as well as a stunning driver

He is a nice guy. I turned up at his house last year totally unannounced because I was nearby on business. Even for me that was was pushing it a bit.

We know a few of the same people and I'd met him before a few times, but really I am a stranger to him, yet he welcomed me into that room where he's sitting and offered me a brew. As the last man standing from some of his exploits he gets to tell it his way a little, but he's a top man and deserves all the perks he gets nowadays as his fame spreads.

All of the archive material is available elsewhere. Porter Publishing (Lindsay Porter, not Philip) had the contract and did quite a few video compilations and DVDs with some overlap of material. An eBay or YouTube search would probably show most of it.

My favourite memory of Norman (there are so many!) was in 2011 at the Festival of Speed. He was down to drive my car as well as E2A, and I watched him casually set off in the latter, opposite locking at the first bend. He returned with a big grin saying "you never lose it you know". This from a man who had already passed 90! I pray to God I can be there at MIRA for his 100th.

His dream is to do 100mph on his 100th in the XJ13 - I sincerely hope he manages it!

What a great video, best wishes to Norman, I’m sure if you can get him in a car at 100 years he will deliver 100 mph.

Thank you for posting
