#1 S1 Interior mirror
Does anyone know if the S1 FHC interior rear view mirror will fit the S2?
Can feel what could be a securing hole in the roof where it might be attached.
I need a new mirror but wanted to check first.
Thanks
Geoff

There should be three holes with captive nuts:

that's a good idea as the glued mirror on S2 does not seems to stay in place

David, any chance of giving me a couple of measurements, please?
From top of bracket to bottom of mirror and width of mirror.
I may have found a later alternate at a lower price than the original, but want to check if it'd fit.
Thanks
Geoff

The foot pattern is the same on many Jags but angle varies. There's a wedge-shaped alloy shim to vary it between models. I think it may be a 3-hole nut plate rather than captive nuts, so it could be missing from S2 with glued-on mirrors?Gfhug wrote:David, any chance of giving me a couple of measurements, please?

Peter, thank you for your comments. I don't have a proper mirror, only a cheap after market stick on one. I've seen one from an XJ6/12 and was considering buying that, but the arm might be a bit shorter than needed, hence the dimension questions. Didn't want to replace a non-sticking stick-on with another stick on mirror.
The fixing holes can be felt under the roof lining, maybe large self tappers would work if the nut-plate is missing.

the problem is that testing would ruin the roof lining if unsuccessfull
unless someone is currently restoring a series 2 and can check before installing a new ceiling

From what l have seen the holes are there and one customer has fitted one to his S2 car.
You should be able to undo the 2 self tappers that hold the forward strip of headlining on in order to be able to see if you have the holes and captives.

The problem is the heads are special and sit in a recess in the bracket IIRC. As Angus says, dropping the trim panel should do for a check.Gfhug wrote:The fixing holes can be felt under the roof lining, maybe large self tappers would work if the nut-plate is missing.

Have the holes but not the captives. Have lots of captive nuts in stock so can easily make up the back plate.
This is what I was thinking of getting, but is the arm too short?

Original interior mirror is 8" wide and about 6.5" from top of bracket to bottom of mirror depending on how you have the mirror angled. So slightly smaller than the XJ6 one.

Gfhug, may be it can help you?
Y have the "same" problem to change the glass without damaging the aluminium case.
How is fixed the glass behind? is it correct to softly open the aluminium case and the glass will be easyly changed?

Yves, sorry I can't help as I did not replace the glass in an old mirror, but bought a mirror that fits a different Jaguar (XJ6 Series1). If you look at the link in my posting above you will see the complete unit (arm and mirror) I bought.
That mirror and arm fits into my S2 using the locating holes in the headlining as for the S1 E Type.
The mirror is slightly larger than the S1 mirror and slightly interferes with the visors, but not to a significant amount.
Hopefully someone else can advise how to change the glass.
BTW, it's a British car so all measurements should be inches
All the best
Geoff

I have just removed the glass from my mirror to replace the arm , although my car is 1965 with a different arm to yours.
Yes you can just spring the case apart I slid a knife blade around the case under the glass very carefully and the glass comes out.
Neal.
