#1 Help With Paint Code Please

Post by JimmyS » Mon Apr 25, 2016 5:09 pm

Dear All,
I am finding it difficult to pin down a colour code to suit my November 1964 car. My better half would like the colour changed from Pale Primrose to Cream and I have no objection to that. I have checked the Knowledge Base but found a contradiction. It lists the ICI number as 2680 and the Glasso GIP number as 18442. My brother visited a supplier on my behalf today and took the following picture of his swatch booklet...

Online searching throws even more numbers into the mix and is inconsistent with the name, using 'Cream' and 'Old English White'. Some people say they are not the same thing, Messers Haddock and Porter use the name Cream so that is good enough for me.

Has anybody on this forum been here before and found a definitive answer?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Much confusion does seem to abound around the various cream/oew colours. According to the knowledge base the glasso code 17067 (ici code 2379) referred to the S3 (1970-1974). There was also another change in 1971 and there was some discussion here on the subject...

As a 64 car I think ici 2680 is correct for you but as always probably worth getting a sampler sprayed up before you commit.

You could also try giving Hutsons a call as I know they painted this Cream/OEW s1 in the last couple of years (after which Dave White added his artwork)...

Thanks Neil,

I'm of the opinion that ICI 2680 is the code to go with if that is the creamier option. There is no substitute for seeing samples with the Mk1 eyeball. There are too many variables to contend with when viewing photographs, particularly photographs on computer screens. I'll give Andy at Hutson's a call tomorrow and report what he says.

Here is Andy's advice: He would order P420-2680, the ICI equivalent, which he says is comparable to JAG 432D (D for dark apparently).

Good morning to everybody. I have the same problem for my Jaguar 66: cream or oew. I made the request to the heritage and they gave me the following codes. The correct one (cream ICI 5619) is too dark to respect the original car paint, see below. Actually the real cream seems to be pretty strange. The other option (old english white ICI 2680) is lighter and belong to ancienter jaguars (from 56 if I am not wrong). It is still "darker" to respect my original car color, but better than cream. The problem is that now the old paint has been completely removed. Unfortunately no exhaustive comparisons can be done anymore!. Have you got some suggestion? I would choose the correct paint, but also something visually nice.

Alessio (alias elcinghio, which all Ducati owners know means "the belt") didn't get much of a response, and I'd like to float this to the top again.

His Heritage information indeed seems contrary to what I had understood, which was that "Cream OEW" changed over the years and wasn't a constant from 1961 to 1967, yet certainly was ICI 2680 at some point, including when my car was built in 1962, whereas Jaguar have stated ICI 5619 - that is clearly different - for the whole period.

I'm repainting most of my shell (outer only) at the moment and can't find any paint supplier in Montpellier that knows what ICI 2680 is. Maybe the Hutson suggestion of P420-2680 will help ..........

Any other Cream-OEW owners with European paint experience, please ? :helpsign:
