Instrument repairer recommendations?
#1 Instrument repairer recommendations?
I need to get all my instruments checked over/refurbished.
The recommended people appear to be Speedograph Richfield, JDO instruments, and Steve Hunt....does anyone have recent experience to choose between them?
Thanks!

I had good experience/service from Speedograph for my speedometer and Spiyda who converted my tacho from RVI to RVC.

Hi Jeremy - I used JDO to refurb my speedo on the E-Type and the rev counter on my 240. Really pleased with the result - although he did repaint the rims which I didn't ask for - make sure if you want them left so as to fit in with the others, you specify that you don't want it done. Other than that excellent service and will undoubtedly use him again.
I have separately used IRS Nottingham, (Instrument Repair Service) - although they don't specify that they will deal with classic instruments....... but they did have in stock a brand new calibrated speedo for a 1983 Series 3 XJ6 I had...... Might be worth asking if they can repair your instruments if you want a comparator.

Yes, JDO.
My speedo exploded at Goodwood this year.
Off to JDO on Monday, back on Thursday all repaired. £70 I think.
Perfect.

Hi,
Very good experience with
http://www.speedycables.com/
Very good work with conform and original components.
They work on the tacho and speedo of my 3.8L
They give me ( gift ) the correct color bulb for the instruments of my 4.2L with the small rivet as original.
Bad experience with JDO !

I also would not recommend JDO.
Sent my clock for a fix but never worked.
Mike Eck sorted it perfectly

I have used JDO to refurbish all my instruments from a series 1.5 E-type.
He's a bit of an acquired taste and a bit tetchy if you haven't captured all the instructions on his website.
However no complaints at all about the work done and fast turnaround.

Also had (having) a bad experience with JDO. After telephoning and sorting everything out, I sent the clock for a fast repair keeping to 12v. I received my clock back, converted to battery and was told this is the better solution - despite it not being what I wanted. They offered to do the quartz conversion for another 50%. The battery clock is also stopping and not working fully. My request for a refund is currently unanswered.
I find the attitude in the responses has become rather arrogant.
