#1 choke cable replacement advice needed

Post by Nomisblue01 » Mon Dec 26, 2016 7:52 pm

Evening All

A little job I have over the break is to replace the choke cable on my S3 V12. Its the twin cable.

Is there an easy way to remove old and attach the new without taking the dash apart. Did think would try and remove glove box, or drop fuse cover down. Any ideas or advice greatly received.

thx
Simon

May not work with your car but I have had some success in the past removing the tacho and working through the hole. Whether this will give you enough access to the pinch bolts that hold the cable I'm not sure.

Otherwise removing the dash top is an easier task than removing a dash panel.

EDIT just saw yours is LHD so forget the tacho trick.

Hi All, so decided to go for removing dash to access choke cable and another cable to heater that needs replacing. having had a look on the far left and right of dash its appears there is a single bolt both ends. are these the only two or are there others, if so where are they and are they easy to get to.

thx

Hi there are a couple of nuts to remove inside the drop down dash panel. Easy to get at

Morning All.

Dash removal panned for the weekend to replace both choke cable and heater cables.

Extra question? How easy is it just to remove the front part and leave the strip next to the screen, or does it all come out together, hoping not to disturb the air vent ducts etc..

thx in advance

Have you considered just replacing the inner cable(s)?

Hi Simon.....on my S2 2+2 the two parts of the dash were held together by clips.....it would be very dificult in situ to put them back together.....its not very dificult to take the whole top out and put it back in

Thx, looks like whole thing out. as access to the button cable connectors will be too fiddly with them in the way

It is very fiddly even with the dash top away and the tacho out. Having the dash top away will also make it easier fit the rubber grommets on the bulkhead.

Hi Hugo, is it possible just to remove the knobs and choke pull, leaving the dash in place, that would be a great saving if possible. then as you say replace the cables?
