Got my first E in 1977, a 3.8 FHC in Gunmetal with Biscuit trim. Needed a full restoration and I was only 16 years old. My lovely Mum bought it for me for £1000 as she knew how much I needed it. I stupidly sold it to buy a flat to live in and have regretted it ever since. Now my Mum is not here any more I so want to find it to get it back home. I suppose my really first E was in about 1968 and I had two from Corgi, one red and one blue metallic. Still got them somewhere. E type was registered PEY ... and was sold by the Jaguar dealers in Bangor North Wales. No chassis number information to hand or the rest of the registration but one day it will turn up I am sure. Reckon it to be a 62 car alloy dash not flat floor.

Does it count that, between us, me and my Dad have owned my E-type for 47 continuous years? Bought in April 1970 when just eight months old and with less than 1,000 miles on the clock  :salute:

indeed there are some great stories. I may have mentioned this before, but my best pals Dad had a 4.2 FHC in 1967, in Opalescent Silver Blue. Where I grew up in Shropshire there is a long straight that is called the Cressage Straight and is the Shrewsbury road to Bridgnorth ( by coincidence where CMC and SNG are ) . This is where Gordon Ashley decided to treat a couple of small chaps to 135 mph on the speedo of his E type. I will never forget the impact of that. The smell of the Connolly the noise from the XK 4.2, stuck with me for 50 years. It just felt so matter of fact, there was no fuss or stress, just raw speed. God knows what my Mum would have thought!

I am the second owner of my 1964 FHC. Bought "Grumpy" in April of 1970 as a present to myself for having made it through Vietnam for a year :) So as of now, I have had the car for 47 years. Some day in the not too distant future, it will be a "barn find"....

The question is how long you have had your vehicle or longest continuous ownership - not when you first bought one :police: so you old fellas who bought one in the 60s and sold it on, that does not count

I bought mine at the end of 82 and I still have it - it doesn't work - the engine does though - but I still have it.

So 35 years of continuous ownership though I often wonder whether I should have bought the Dino 246GT Targa that I looked at, at the time.

Hmmmm!
Lots of stories about cars owned for decades, many of which they've been out of use. I wonder if my Dads Mini which he bought new in 1960 and the remains of which are in a barn, would (if it were an E-Type bought in 1961) if it were re-bodied as original and restored to working order count as a period on continued ownership as much as someone who'd can't car on the road all that time?

Bought my 3.8 Fixed Head in Dec. 1970 - 47 years ago. It's very much a part of the family.

My Dad bought 890650 for my Mom in 1964. The local dealer was Clifford T. Nutt in Monrovia, California. I was 6 years old then. I had many rides to school in that car. My friends would say "Cool Jagwire, Martin!" Jagwire? Really? Only Americans say Jaguar like that I guess.
My Dad always maintained it, with me at his elbow supervising. Dad said "One day it will be yours" Mom put 130,000 miles on it, and parked it in 1982. Never any damage or rust being in dry SoCal. Dad passed away in 2001. Mom called me and asked me to help her sell it. I said "But... Dad said..." My Mom's solution was that I could buy it from her. I paid her $10,000 for it and trailered it home. Dad was right after all, one day it was mine. It looked like a barn find. I had it going reliably and safely after some time and money invested. I've just completed a no compromise rebuild, and I have about 250 miles on it. No plans to sell, by the way. You can look up 890650 on XKE Data.com to see how it came out. Red is its original color.
Maybe I'm disqualified because I bought it from my Mom?

Martin, that's great to hear, including the anecdote that Americans can't pronounce Jag U ar

Tell us more about your car and the restoration work, photos and all, please. Always nice to hear of long term ownership and still keeping the car going.

I haven't owned my E for a huge time, just over 14 years. I'm not even the person who has owned the car the longest. I'll need to own the car until December 2018 to reach that level. However, I do use my car. A lot. And yesterday I took the mileometer over 90,000 miles. Given than the reading was 37,000 when I bought the car in 2003, I'm sure it has reached this milestone at least once before.

I bought mine in April of 1974, a leftover '73. Every dealer in America had 10 to 20 E's...could not sell a V12 during the gas crisis. I didn't care.....Jag announced 1974 would be the last in the US, so I ran to the bank. Just had to have one, but was not fond of the huge rubber bumpers on the 1974. Deeply discounted at the time, it was a bargain. Tried to sell it during the early eighties, and could not even get the phone to ring.....different times, different taste. So now in 2017, 43 years plus later, I still enjoy my baby immensely, taking her for a drive around NYC almost every sunny day. 140K miles, and never a major problem. Several upgrades, 5 speed, cooling, brakes, stereo, carb filters, etc, just to keep it technically vital, but the heart of the E will never change. Still the most enjoyable car to drive, and I have driven everything.

I bought mine back in 1983 (and still have it of course) so thats 34 years. it cost the princely sum of £4000 and came with a set of triple Webbers in the boot as spares.

I bought it when my fiance of the time decided she wanted a different life, so the purchase was to cheer myself up. I have to say buying the car was a massive life changer for me. All of my girlfriends (and significant others) post that time were transported around in it and i have more than a few smiley memories plus making a lot of good friends through having the car.

Still loving it :)
