New Boy
#1 New Boy
New to the Forum but not to E-Types. Had mine 29 years now. Old English White, S1.5 FHC x2 seat, red interior.
Good but plenty to do because it gets used all over EU and most of the UK.
Just been asked if I would use it for an ad in London - pay is £150 + expenses. Not done this before, does that sound OK.
Also, Urgent advice sought please in technical S1.
Thanks.

Welcome....no idea if £150 is good or bad but check you insurance....social,domestic and pleasure insurance....your usual classic policy ....usually excludes hire and reward....and that would also technically apply to the journey to and from the site too....

Insurance is a valid point. It's not being driven and I'll be with it all the time. Photoshoot is in a Kensington Mews so I can't really see it being a problem though.

Insurance now checked and if nobody else is driving or dropped on it then it's fine.
Maybe an interesting way to get a decent pic but a lot of cleaning will be needed!
Thanks for your replies

I heard that most film companies insure your car and that covers from the moment you leave home. Maybe not all do it but they have general insurance and it makes sense that they cover your car.

Well, if nothing else, it'll add some history to your car's file.

Welcome to the forum.
It is a beauty. Let us all know how you get on, and when it can be seen performing.
Regards,
Damien

Projected date now 16th October in Kensington. It's a pretty low key ad for a new company so I don't think there's much to gain in history, but the experience will be interesting since I once worked in advertising.

Marie Clair used mine for a glamour shoot in London a few years ago and it turned out to be a disaster for me, puncture and a parking ticket because I filled out the parking permit incorrectly, then a tow truck turned up to take it away I had to wait with the car because it kept coming back-thanks Camden.
My dynamo burned out on the way home as well I think I made a fiver out of it, didn't even get the rushes.
I hope yours goes a bit better.

Just for future consideration if members are asked to have their car used in a film or photo shoot:
My brother owns several Maseratis and was recently asked about using them in a 3 hour film shoot. They paid him $3,000 US , the Ghibli was parked and the Quatroport was driven 50 ft and parked and the "mafia" exited the car. Sounds like 150 pounds is a little "light" for an E-type shoot.

My Lancia's been used for several shoots and magazine articles, and was the feature car on 'The World's Biggest Motoring Television Programme'. I've never been paid a penny - the best I've ever had is a refund of any petrol money. Think it must just be the accepted tight-fisted British way of doing things....

Just remembered channel 4 used my car at Silverstone, the programme was called 'Used car roadshow' Jason someone and Penny someone used to present it.
Got nothing for that either.

I've had my car registered with an agency for film and advertising work. I set the rate I'd accept, and waited for the offers to come in.........
.........
.............
Hmmmm! Still waiting. Maybe there are a sufficency of others willing to let their cars be used for little or nothing.
I feel the need to for a union to protect the rights of car's owners to extract a living wage from the use of their cars by others, and to prevent scabs from undercutting the ancient rights of classic car owners to excercise their rights.
.........
...............
Hmmmm! Still waiting.

I was asked several years ago for my XKER to be used in an indoor static photo shoot with the cast from The only way is Chelsea. Turned positioned the car where they wanted, wife and I had a great lunch, watched some luvvies sit in the car and after a total of 4 hours left some £300 better off. £150 seems light.
Re insurance once on their premises liability was theirs.Oh and got some great pics of the car, with cast, and wife and I plus a dozen copies of the magazine.
