#1 New Forum Features

Post by Heuer » Tue Feb 28, 2017 4:42 pm

I have added a new feature to the Forum that allows a more uniform display of photos on PC's and tablets. All photos are now automatically resized to a maximum width of 400 pixels however if you click on one it will be expanded into a Lightbox to its full size (800+ pixels) and allow you to scroll through all the photos on the page using < and > icons which will appear as you hover your mouse cursor.

If a blue border appears around the photo when you point at it the Lightbox is available; no blue border means the photo was already smaller than 400 pixels so has not been resized and will not be part of the Lightbox slide show.. Total photos to view will appear as e.g. '1 of 9'. Exit the Lightbox by clicking on the X. This does not apply to smartphones as the photos are automatically resized to the full screen size. Works on desktop PC's, laptops and tablets. Try it by clicking on the first photo:

I have also added some extra buttons to the post editor to allow you to cancel, reset or save a draft.

Finally I have added a post number to allow us to refer back (e.g. see post #14) in a thread. It appears next to the user's name and auto increments.

With the reduced display size of photos I have taken the opportunity to increase the number posts per page from 10 to 20. Hopefully this will make following a thread easier.

Added a couple of other things to hopefully make life simpler. First you will now see 'Topic Author' in red above the OP's name to track how a conversation is going. Secondly, because I increased the posts per page to 20, there are now blue auto-scroll buttons on the right hand side which will rapidly transport you to the start or end post in a page.

For those members who do not have or want a Photobucket account I have added the option to very simply upload your photos to Postimage and have them displayed in your post, automagically. Ideal for newcomers or those that post infrequently:

You will now see a Postimage logo at the bottom of the reply editor box:
Image

Click on it and a popup will appear (leave the 'Do not resize' option as is) allowing you to select the photo from your PC/tablet/phone:
Image

The link will appear in your post. Click submit and you are good to go. Clicking on the photo will display it full size. If you are already a Photobucket member stay with it as you have much more control. Also without some editing of the link it does not work with the Forum 'Lightbox' feature. They are aware of the issue and are looking at a fix. Great tool if you just want to do a quick 'n dirty upload though.

Optional. Editing the link:

If you want to edit the link to make it compatible with Lightbox proceed as follows. The Photoimage link will look something like this:

(url=https://postimg.xxx/image/vo3bzdwy3/)
[img}https://s17.postimg.xx/pzx18hslr/xxxxxx.xxx(/img]

You need to delete the text I have highlighted in red:
(url=https://postimg.xxx/image/vo3bzdwy3/)
[img}https://s17.postimg.xx/pzx18hslr/xxxxxx.xxx(/img]

Leaving it like this:
[img)https://s17.postimg.xx/pzx18hslr/xxxxxx.xxx(/img]

This is great and easy simply to post a pic from one's files.

Does not work with videos (even really short ones).

What's the easiest way to attach a video from one's dropbox files?

Flags

After a request from David Muir I have added the Scottish saltire flag to the list. You can change your country flag from the UCP. I have also updated the addon and it now displays the country flag against the posters name in the index.

The flag feature helps other members when answering posts as they can tailor a response to a specific region so it is a of value rather than just a bit of fun!

David,
I'm trying to get to the bottom of why I don't see posted images often. Your post #9 above I see this:
Image

Image

i.e. instead of a picture I see just: "Ø Imag"

and when I uploaded the image above from my laptop using the "P Add image to post" link just below the reply box, as you see here, it adds the picture twice. :scratchheadyellow:

Thanks for an excellent forum otherwise, it is a great help to me.

Hi Jerry

This seems to be a problem with Android and Apple devices. Works OK on a PC. Not sure what the problem is but it is not on our side. I use IMGUR which works a lot better so I am thinking of getting rid of Postimage.com because they offer no support whatsoever.

Thanks David.

However, I am using a Laptop running Win7 Pro and the same happens whether I use IE11 or Firefox, all of which are fully updated.

:scratchheadyellow:

Edit: I thought it might be caused by my Kaspersky anti-virus but turning this off and re-booting made no difference.

Rory has reported a similar problem in one of his posts: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11938

That is my 'go to' test as the first set of photos do not display but the last one does. I am seeing the icons on my Samsung Galaxy S8 and an old iPad. On my my PC everything displays correctly. I get the same results regardless of which browser I use - Chrome. Edge, Firefox, Samsung or Puffin.

Here is a test:

Postimage:
Image

Imugr:
Image

Let me know if one or other or both work to help me figure out where the problem is.

Typically both work on all my devices :banghead:

This is one of Rory's photos using Postimage that displays on my PC but not my phone:
Image

Yet this one from the same thread displays correctly.

David, thanks again.

I see only the last 2 pictures in the linked thread (A different approach....)

If I click on the 2nd image in post #13 I get this:
Image

When I click on the last image in post #14 it opens fine in a picture size window. I get the blue boarder when the pointer goes over the image.

In your last post I see both versions of the lady behind the car, I just see "Ø Imag" for the next one and then the engine on the stand is fine.

Further, if I mouse over the first picture in your last, I get the blue boarder, click opens the picture in the viewer, clicking the > moves to the next lady picture, again goes straight to the enigine.
