Revotec Twin Fan Set Up Problem

Hi everyone I'm having trouble with my Revotec Fans I bought from Moss Classic Car Parts Group.... I have set it to come on at 70 degrees C at the moment just to check that they come on ok but within a minute of the fans starting up it will blow the 20 amp fuse that wasn't supplied with the kit but was recommended to fit. Is a 20 amp fuse man enough for two 12 inch fans has anybody else had this problem? And if so am I doing anything wrong or how did they fix the problem? Many Thanks In Advance.... Des.

Dear Des,

The fuse is there to prevent your wiring from melting if it is carrying a too heavy current. You should measure the current that a stock setup uses and it ought to be safe to use a fuse which accommodates that.

Properly maintained, the etype v12 doesn't have a fundamental cooling problem due to design and doesn't need such heavy duty fans.
Using a higher rated fuse doesn't stop these fans from consuming the current that they do - it just means there is less protection for the wiring harness.

I am currently looking at the radiator exit temperatures on my v12 and they generally stay within the 67-74'c range with a stock cooling system and 82'c thermostats. Once up to temperature, it is generally impossible to reduce the temperature below 67'c as the thermostats reduce the flow of water to the radiator when enough cooling is occurring.

1. Maybe I'll up the cut in temp a little.... and try that 1st....
2. I think the stock fuse for the stock rads. is a 35 amp fuse.... maybe if No.1 doesn't work I'll slowly up the the fuse size.

Hi Des.....I have one of their fans in a box for another project so i called Revotec....they couldnt be more helpefull..each fan in your kit draws 12.1 amps.....ensure you are connecting them in parallel....so total draw will be 24.2amps......they recommend a 25amp slow blow fuse....the small blade type are slow blow....not the glass type in the E fuse panel.......it needs to be slow blow becaus on initial start up the current will be much higher for a fraction of a second......also they advised that if the fan blades even slightly touch the shroud the current draw will increase......they advise if you have any problems then call them....
