Hi folks,
1964 FHC converted to alternator. All worked fine for years. Out the other night, charging seems to be 'sporadic'......what are the easy, first things to check?
Thanks

1. Swap out the 4TR regulator with a known good one - they are fairly cheap. 2. Check all connections obviously.
3. It could be the diode pack failing. Put a test meter across the battery and start the car, rev to about 2,000 rpm and you should be seeing 14.7v

Thanks David, 'twas a dirty contact! Funnily enough it's so long since I did the alternator conversion that I'd forgotten that I'd used a 'more modern' alternator('70s mini) with internal voltage regulation!
Anyway, all is well although I think I'll change to a voltmeter.
