#1 Coolant leak

Post by PAUL MORRIS » Thu May 17, 2012 3:04 pm

Dear All,

I recently had a service and many rubber connections changed. But just had a short drive and steamed on returning. Must have lost 100% of coolant. Can't see where the problem coming from, a mess !

Paul

That link does not work - requires a Skydrive password.

First thing to do is check the hose clamps are all tight, quite likely they forgot to do one up properly. Refill with coolant and let the car tick over until normal temperature is reached (don't leave it alone for a moment!) and keep looking around to see if the leak is still there, and if so, isolate it.

Dear David,

I checked most of them & can't see where is the problem. I seem to have 2 Puddles even though it really emptied allot. I had since getting the car back some straining noise when warm or in corners after 30mins. Yesterday just before stopping the hollow straining noise came back & a bit of a burning smell in the garage. Would be the Water pump that is Kaput, they had painted the radiator & changed all connections but ?

I would take the car immediately back to them to fix. It is ridiculous to pay for service and then have to troubleshoot their work. They owe you a car in running condition. If you have cooked the engine because you did not notice the water gauge then they may complain, but the car needs to be fixed by them unless you can easily see a simple thing wrong or forgotten, which would mean that even though it is their problem it is less hassle for you to fix.

Check the bypass hoses and heater connections at the back.

If they have painted the radiator then the cooking smell may be innocent, but the rest needs checking. If you have an old radiator cap you may be able to solder a valve on and pressurise the system while cold to see the leak, but really it is not your problem, it is the repairer's problem...

Dear All,

Thks for the advice,

Finally they found a Debris Stuck in the Radiator even if hard for me to believe. I Ordered a new one from SC as much quicker than Re Con.
