rear radius arm/wishbone removal

I got the IRS off of the car for some repairs and I'm slowly taking it apart. The radius arm rear rubber mounts look original are cracked and need replacing. I'm stuck trying to remove the radius arm from the wishbone, so how tight is the bolt holding the rear of the radius arm in the wishbone? do I smack the nut side or is there a tool to loosen the bolt off? The bolt head seems countersunk into the wishbone, so could it be rusted tight?

The trick is to put a piece of steel between the top of the nut and the wishbone, then unscrew the nut. This will force the bolt head out of the recess.
Judicious use of oxy acetylene for heat to the bolt head may be needed.
I'm assuming you have the hub carrier off.

Thanks, that sounds like a trick that might work. Yup, the hub carriers are already removed.

I have personally never had much of a problem with releasing this bolt, but a friend has just had to make up a tool to press it and had a full 25 tonnes before it released!

What am i missing here....what is the press doing.......the bolt goes through the bracket on the wishbone then through the bush and then threaded into the wishbone.........looks like the press is just pushing down on tne head of the bolt

The bolt head is outboard. I can't tell for sure but the nut is probably on the bolt in the picture.

Well I wasn't there, but it came out.

On the ones ive done (S2, S3) the bolt head is inboard......under the head is a locking washer...the bolt threads into the wishbone directly.....there is no nut

the series 2 setup sounds like they fixed the problem... unfortunately mine is a '68 series 1.5 with the series 1 frozen bolt with nut. I'll try playing with it in a few days and then update.

I got them both out today. Thanks Andrew for the trick... I shoved an old set of pliers into the space and turned the nut slowly. The bolts came out smoothly. Happy day in Jag repair land.
