Re: Centre dash rubber flap/seal?

I've never figured out what that flap is really supposed to prevent- a little dust getting into the radio console? I know Jaguar would never spend a pence on something they thought wasn't necessary, but I can't figure out why they put these here on the Series 1.5 and 2 cars.

Re: Refurbishing door handles/locks

Question....what are the flat spring and ?circlip-like parts in your photo at the far left and right of the photo? I don’t seem to have these The flat washers with the two internal "ears" separate the two springs so they don't get intertwined. As I understand it they are no longer available, but I s...

Thanks Craig for the offer. I don;t get down south very often but if the opportunity presents itself I'll contact you. The offer stands for me as well- if you're ever in the Denver area let me know!

Any London locals able to meet for a pint or three?

I've been a member here for several years but I tend to hang out on the E-Type lovers forum more than this one as I'm in the US. My wife and I are traveling to London for a vacation that will include attending the E-Type/XK club dinner on November 15th. I was wondering if anyone on this forum that l...

Re: Question about a 1.5 model and headlight covers

"For quick real-world night driving the S1.5 was head and shoulders better than my previous 3.8 FHC." Back when the only option for headlight illumination were sealed-beam "Glow Worm" lights I would agree with you 100%- the uncovered headlights would allow more light to get to the road surface for b...

Re: Question about a 1.5 model and headlight covers

Since the last exception to the open headlight revision (for OTSs) was 1E14656 and the Series 1.5 OTSs didn't start until 1E15980 then none of the 1968 model year cars had closed headlights from the factory. It looks like there were 18 OTSs with closed headlights after the first Series 1.25 car with...

Re: Question about a 1.5 model and headlight covers

"E type # 1E16067" Your car was 7 behind mine on the assembly line! (1E16060) and mine was definitely an open headlight car. I believe that the open headlights first appeared in early 1967 (January) and never reverted to the closed headlights. The "Series 1.25" cars were the 1967 model year cars mad...

Re: Two carb set up

The secondary manifold butterflies are NOT needed, and actually interfere with the flow of air/fuel. The simplest method is to simply lock the secondaries open. The next, better method is to remove the butterfly plates from the secondary rods and leave the rods in place to prevent air from coming in...

Re: Original horn push?

Your's certainly looks to be original as others have already verified. All of the reproductions I have seen have the growler's ears in white squares (not black squares as the originals) and the checkerboard squares have rounded corners not sharp corners like the originals.

Re: Electrical question

I don't have an electrical schematic for the Series 2+2 but I'd start there and see if these circuits share a common fuse. If the fuse is blown you need to find out why rather than just replacing it.

Re: 3aw relay

Tom: I do have the '68 Judges guide and refer to it often. I do take issue with a couple of items in it and have even had discussions with George Camp about it. The JCNA position is if it's in the guide it is 100% correct for all Series 1.5 cars. So if you are going for Concourse wins follow the gui...

Re: 3aw relay

Great advice from Chris- that is the best path forward for troubleshooting your issue. If you do discover that the 3AW is not up to snuff I would seriously consider replacing it with an electronic version from SNGB or CoolCat. More $$(££?) but no worries. Never (well, almost never) fail again!

Series 1 1/2 LHD to RHD column problem

John- some of the early US spec Series 1.5 firewalls only had the cutout for the steering column on the LHD side. If you look at page 20 of the Part 4 document linked above, the top photo on that page shows the "hump" on the horizontal firewall ledge just above the steering column feed-thru. You nee...
