Re cleaning threads with a die nut - I was in the habit of doing this until I was advised die nuts are a bit too aggressive, and proper chaser items should be used. Lang do an excellent set of imperial tap and die chasers in UNF and UNC.

Have some experience of LT77 in Rovers- 2 SD1, 2 P6B converted, Discovery etc so... The LandRover versions have longer input and output shafts so dont go there. In the SD1s I never got vigorous with the box, only trouble I had was clutch hydraulics. The later boxes known as R380 are repudetly strong...
