I also have this problem, but I will not order a gasket until the weather warms up!

S3 Choke operation
My S3 starts perfectly, ignition on, let the fuel system prime, pull the choke up, and it starts. But, if I depress the acelerator to pull away, the choke closes nearly all the way, and unless I am quick and lift the choke lever it can stall. Is this a V12 thing, or do I need a new cable/choke lever...

Thank you Geoff, expect more posts of a similar nature!
That is a good question regarding the banana. It is an imperial car, but i live in a metric country, hence the use of a banana for scale. :)

Re: Fitting the Chrome Bead Moulding at top of the Door
Thanks Bill. I found a drawing of the chrome part, showing the inverted L shaped slots. So I drilled and filed them to suit. Luckily, the parts are manufactured from brass these days. The rubber strip was a swine to get in, even after trimming and soaping it. One side is in, however I may add a dab ...

Fitting the Chrome Bead Moulding at top of the Door
I have been driving my car without the Chrome Trim/Bead Moulding and rubber seal at the top of Doors. Now it is getting colder I should really fit them (They were not fitted when I brought the car) Does anyone have any tips please. It looks like they are riveted in place as the old rivets are still ...

S3 jacking points
My Series 3 has a little puddle of transmission underneath and the transmission seems to have a slight but noticeable whine when stationary. So a good place to start is find the leak. It usually goes up on a 4 post lift, but now I only have a low trolley jack and axle stands. What is the best jackin...

Re: S3 battery goes flat
Have you managed to remove the blanking screw on the front and if so is there an adjustable pot? Did you manage to measure the current draw from the battery when everything is off (after a 10 mins. wait)? Measure the charging voltage with just the engine running and them turn on everything electric...

Re: S3 battery goes flat
Yes, the belts are matching. The discharge issue seems to have gone with the correctly sized battery. I am stopping 4 or 5 times on a 50 mile run with the battery running at an indicated 12.7 to 12.8 volts, that includes with main and side lights. So it looks like it is charging, just not at the 13+...

Re: S3 battery goes flat
As an update, I spoke to the sales team at Martin Robey. They tell me the unit is not adjustable and my 12,8 volts "Seems about right"
I will still remove it, and check the connections as I am not convinced.

Re: S3 battery goes flat
Thanks John, how is the white plug removed?
EDIT. After more research it looks to be a replica ftom Martin Robey. I will remove it and check the earth, etc.

Re: S3 battery goes flat
Just a thought.... should that white plastic screw be removed first, if so, how does it come out?
I feel very dim here!

Re: S3 battery goes flat
It is a BUTEC. I found an article which suggests running the car st 1000 rpm and then turning the adjustment screw clockwise to increase the voltage. I tried this with a digital AVO, but a 1/4 turn in small increments made no difference and I am not sure if it is a multi turn or dingle cturn pot, do...

Re: S3 battery goes flat
I swapped out the old battery with the new Varta. Any current measured between the new battery and the positive terminal with the ignition off was negligible. I put the battery on charge for a few hours and the following day we headed out. We did choose a very warm day, high 20s in our part of Denma...

S3 battery goes flat
My S3 battery goes flat if I leave it for a few days. It came with a 44Ah own brand battery, so I have ordered a new Varta E23. However there must be a reason and I have noticed my volt meter is usually just into the red when running. So I have purchased a USB cigarette charger which shows the volta...

Re: Daytime lights in Europe
Surely you’re not required to retro fit daytime running lights in Europe to pre 2011 cars 🤔 so yes you can modify your car so they come on at start up, but the age old method of the driver judging what lights are required for the conditions apply to older cars, don’t they ??? That is a really good ...

Re: Daytime lights in Europe
Thank you everyone. LEDs are a good move regardless, although I doubt I will drive the car much at night, especially as my current DK classic insurance does not cover road use during the winter months. I am fitting a new radio next week, it will be a good opportunity to look at the lighting circuits...

Daytime lights in Europe
I live in Europe where daytime running lights are mandatory. We drive a BMW as a daily car, start it up and the lights come on, as a consequence I tend to forget when in the Jaguar. Has anyone modified their car to bring side lights on automatically at start up, or should I just put a sticker somewh...
