Re: Rear suspension

Alun, I suspect there is some confusion between the dust covers, without which the dampers would still not fall through, although they would not remain centralised and the spring platforms, without which they would definitely fall through. I can't measure the spring diameter until I get around to do...

Re: Rear suspension

I replaced the old Gaz dampers with Boge today, just on one side at the moment. I had retained the original Girling dust covers and spring platforms and it went together without issues. The springs were sourced from sngb about 3 years ago, the originals having sagged to the point where speed bumps w...

Re: Rear suspension

Don't the dust covers 8688 provide spring positioning without the need of the spacers? They would make no significant change to the ride height.

Re: Oil pressure, one more round

I have had 2 of the "modern" electrical gauges - both failed by progressively reading lower. In each case it was the gauge rather than the sender. Not wishing to fit a wet gauge I modified a stepper motor gauge from ebay. It is reversed but in use it's barely noticeable. The sender has a low pressur...

Re: Water Pump Replacement

Just fitted the ali water pump from Rob Beere. Only done 500 miles but first impressions are that it looks and feels good quality. A far cry from the "County" item which I was sold by one of the regulars and lasted 3 x oil changes before the bearings failed. Easy to fit although I did need to slacke...

Re: Bonnet Balance Link Assembly

Even with new links & springs the bonnet still needed to be propped open on our steep drive. Fitting a gas strut fixed it plus the bonnet opens further or even fully by removing a single pin. Not for everyone perhaps but I feel it's one of the better mods. https://i.postimg.cc/pdkkjVnp/Gas-Strut-02s...

Re: Water pump housing 3.8

That's correct, my original 3.8 pump didn't have the 'flanges' at the end of the outlets. The outlets were also a much thinner casting. The problem fitting the county pump has given me is that the outlet is now perilously close to the steering UJ.

On my 3.8 I fitted the unit from Watjag which comes with an aluminium shroud to totally enclose the rear of the radiator. It was a bit fiddly to fit as the shroud did not perfectly match the radiator and the mounting points needed some adjustment, but it works well and looks good IMHO. Also fitted ...

Re: 123 Tune

Hi Anyone know where I can purchase a 123 Tune in the UK, I know Southern Carburettors do them but I wanted to compare prices, also they do three 6 cylinder versions. All have the prefix 123 Tune 6RV, but the last letter is D, G or M, any idea what the last letter stands for? Are they easy to set u...

It's common. I drilled through the housing and most of the way into the bush then pressed in a steel pin. I used locking compound on the pin though doubt it will stick to the sintered bush.

Mine stay tight with split/spring washers but they loose tempering with heat and have to be replaced once removed.

Peter,

both parts; BD19728, BD19729 are/were available from SNGB and perhaps M Robey.

You need to modify it for an O-ring or the rattling against the gear stick will make you crazy on a long trip

A hot-air gun on warm strips the paint quickly once some heat builds up in the panel. It's quite therapeutic seeing it coming off in long strips. Takes a few days to strip the entire outer surface safely, just need to wear a mask. The underside probably would still need to be media blasted but less ...

Dave, sorry, off topic, but I notice you are front numberplate-less. Is that just because of bonnet repairs or do the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary agree that an E Type looks better without? I only ask because I haven't put one back on mine yet and continue to find other things to do first. Angus...

Hi John, I bought a full set of s/s bumpers a few years ago from Group Harrington - suspect the company you name are the same, anyway you can google for them. Following some bonnet repairs I have just had the chance to fit the front ones with the matching over riders. The workmanship is excellent an...

Re: Reversing with Limited Slip Differential.

Hello, I have been told that E Types with a L.S.D. fitted are sometimes prone to shuddering when reversing as though the car is resisting. This applies to when reversing on a bend and uphill, even slightly at the same time. Anyone any thoughts please? Thank you. Johnboy Reversing uphill, especially...

True Pete, I am using silicone but both brake masters jammed from the off so couldn't even bleed them. My feeling is that it was too soon for any swelling additive in the fluid to have any effect so I distrust this brand.

Didn't see the JL thread but am interested to know the seal make. I had a lot of grief with DSL seals, supplied by one of the usuals. DSL = Dowty Seals Ltd.
