1964 3.8 Cylinder head temperature
Hi all, I have been a little concerned about running temperatures on my 1964 3.8 FHC, as on the odd occasion if in traffic the engine seems to be running a bit hot. I don't know if I am just being a bit paranoid but when I stop and feel the cam covers they feel very hot - is this normal? The temp ga...

Thanks for that Trevor,
really interesting that you can remember the car, do you happen to know if they are still around, it would be great to get a bit more info on their ownership etc.
Cheers Jon

Re: New Member - 1964 3.8 FHC RHD
Thanks for that Tom, you are correct, the build date is 6th March 1964 and the dispatch date 24th March 1964 but there is no first registered date on the heritage certificate. The green log book I have shows that Mrs Teal first registered it on the 17th April 1964 and then Mr Davey of Uckfield Susse...

Re: New Member - 1964 3.8 FHC RHD
Hi, Engine number according to the heritage certificate is RA 5916-9 which is correct, stamped on the engine block and head. It is also on the current V5 and original green log book - don't know why car check has it as RA 5923-9!

New Member - 1964 3.8 FHC RHD
Hi all, thought I would introduce myself and my newly acquired 1964 3.8 FHC RHD which I purchased last month at the beginning of July. Having just retired I thought I would full fill my lifelong obsession and purchase an E-type. I specifically wanted a UK right hand drive FHC with matching numbers, ...

Re: Oil Pressure Relief Valve Problem
I appreciate that the OPRV is mechanical and "care's not about revs" but I suppose the point I was trying to make is that if, as I've read in several places that it opens at 50, 60 or even 70psi, why does mine open at idle when hot (30psi), and when cold (45psi)? At higher revs the oil pump will be ...

Re: Oil Pressure Relief Valve Problem
Hi, quick update. I decided to check my sender and guage with compressed air so I connected my air line to the sender unit and gave it exactly 60psi after connecting it via an extension wire and an earth. The results were no different to when the engine was running at around 2,500rpm hot, around 28p...

Oil Pressure Relief Valve Problem
1964 series 1 3.8 FHC and Hi all, I have been struggling with low oil pressure getting 15-18psi on idle and 30-35psi at 2,500 rpm when hot. If I remove the OPRV hose and run the engine on idle, hot or cold, oil gushes out of the OPRV (into a container). This suggested to me that the OPRV was opening...
