Re: Cam Cover sealing...again
NO sealant with Cometic gaskets other than a very small dab at the loose ends near the tach generator. Cometics will not leak if the gasket surfaces are true.

Re: Scraping Sound from rear wheel s1 fhc
I left my U joint shields off during my recent IRS rebuild. My car very rarely sees rain, and always stays on pavement, and after shield hassles with all three of the E types I've owned, I decided "enough".

Re: Clutch slave cylinder- delay in retracting
The return spring does not appear to have any tension on it when at rest with the slave piston fully retracted. You want a bit of tension present when everything is static, as evidenced by a small amount of visible separation of the spring coils. You can pivot the plate under the slave lower bolt to...

Re: Scraping Sound from rear wheel s1 fhc
There should be almost no perceptible wheel movement when you grab the wheel side to side or top to bottom when the wheel is raised of the ground. Can you determine if the wheels are loose on the hubs? (caused by very worn splines, or an aftermarket wheel nut (spinner) 'bottomed out' on the threads ...
Re: Headlight
If it's not the lamp, then it's a wiring issue. Have you tested the lamps off the car to determine if they function on both low and high beam? If lamps have been verified good, and the issue only applies to the one lamp, then it's a wire or connection in the nose of the bonnet, downstream from the b...

Re: Scraping Sound from rear wheel s1 fhc
If the water thrower comes loose (which is not very likely), you should be able to reach behind the wheel and feel for its movement. It's right at the outside end of the aluminum casting, and right up against the rear of the wheel hub. More likely is the cover over the outer U-joint, which is just t...

Re: Rear main oil leak -help please!
To answer your question about the inlet manifold pressurizing the crankcase: No. How would that even happen? the inlet manifold and the airbox are seeing negative pressure when the engine is running. You first need to positively identify the source of the leak before you and all of us on this forum ...

Re: E-Type Fabs / Classic Fabs Exhaust System Price?
Andy, FWIW-Having owned three E types almost continuously over the last 40 years, I found the factory style center muffler hangers to be a very poor design, prone to failure in shear. The OEM originals were marginal, and the repros available today are much worse. The Classic Fabs style are the way t...

Re: seat attachement 67 fhc (blocks to raise seat)??
Blocks of wood were not standard. There was originally a spacer (about .25" thick) under each mounting point that sat directly on the floor pan to prevent crushing of the floor covering.

Re: Overflowing Fuel
Hmm....in the last 50 years or so, I've owned 60 some automobiles and motorcycles that used carburetors. I currently have 6 older cars with 16 carbs between them. I've always checked the metal floats for fuel ingress as everything I read said to do so. And yet I've never experienced a defective/leak...

Re: Automatic air bleed valve.
While I wouldn't say it's not worthwhile, I've had 3 E types (2 3.8, and 1 4.2) and never had an issue with overheating or feeling the need to bleed the last few cc's of air (if in fact it exists) from the intake manifold. Quite possibly it would have value on a competition engine, something about w...

Re: tach wire generator wire placement? (pic included)
There is a fix for under reading AC tachs-and that is to send it off (to Mike Eck in the US-see the US JagLovers Forum) to be modified to use the tach generator signal as a pulse input. The mod is an internal circuit board, and requires a switched +12v wire to be added. Not other wiring mods, so it ...

Re: Over torqued head nuts
A permanent elongation of the stud would be accompanied by a reduction in diameter, however slight. But how did that reduction manifest itself? A consistent reduction along the entire shaft? Near the center of the stud? A reduction of the root diameter of one of the threads? In several places along ...

Re: Wheel/tire selection, help needed
I run the MWS 6.5" wheels with Michelin XWX 205/70-15", with no clearance issues at all. Rear bump rubbers have been reversed, but not sure that was required. MWS have done their homework on proper backspacing for this application. You do have to have the rear of the car fully lifted to fit/remove t...

1. correct but I would add there is the fast idle adjustment screw used when the choke lever is engaged. 2. If I understand your question, yes, the throttle plates can be tricky to get exactly synchronized due to the inherent free play in the individual drop links from the throttle shaft to carbs. B...
