Re: SU Chokes stuck down
Fuel varnish can be a powerful adhesive, especially in a tight clearance situation such as the jet to jet bridge guide. I would avoid using any abrasives to clean things up. Just clean everything throughly with petrol (or an ultrasonic cleaner if you have access to one). The sliding "L" shaped piece...

Re: Moss gearbox easy(?) oil leak fix?
Are you sure it's the rear plate gasket and not the rear seal? I'm not sure, but I think the rear seal is replaceable without removing the rear plate.

Some heat from a propane torch or similar applied to the mounting flange area would be helpful.

Re: Identify This Fan Housing Please ? - who made/makes these ?
Cutting holes in a rear mount fan shroud only undermines the ability of fan to create a low pressure zone behind the radiator and thereby reduce the effectiveness of the fan. It will increase the opportunity for non fan assisted airflow across the radiator core when the fan is not running, which is ...

Re: Front Upper wishbone
We should all be lucky enough to outlive a replacement ball joint. When I replaced my upper arms with the nylon socket type, I ordered the replacement ball joint inserts at the same time in order to have the spares on hand. I wasn't confident that the supplier of these would have the spares in produ...

Re: Oil temperature gauge..
I wouldn't use an oil gallery plug, as you could well impede flow with a sending unit poking in there. Generally speaking, you want to measure oil temperature in the main oil reservoir, i.e. the sump. You can remove the sump and weld in an additional boss somewhere well below the normal oil level, u...

Re: Horn brackets - colour/finish?
While I can't definitively state it is factory correct, my early 4.2 with 3.8 type horns, and which appeared to have never been painted, were a semi gloss black similar to other under bonnet bits.

I am going to contact SNGB but how many others have had this problem return after just two weeks from new ? Are there any more durable brands out there? Regards Graham FWIW I have had a couple of failures with Lucas toggle switches sold by SNGB. Both failed after just a few operations. So I sourced...

When you say the steering is really heavy, can you elaborate? When standing still? At parking lot speeds? At normal road speeds? All of the above? (which would be unusual) What tires and tire pressures are you running? Are the wheels standard or wider?

Re: 3.8 Carburetor needles
I would never use bare pliers on the needles. They are precision machined relatively soft brass. I've always been able to remove the needles with my fingers, sometimes via twisting while pulling.

Put in a mechanical gauge. I’ve seen them available to match the original style. The modern electric gauges/senders seem to be crap these days.

Re: Air cleaner base and trumpets connection to carburetors
That they are open to atmosphere is why one should remove the dashpots and thoroughly clean them and the air pistons at least every other year. If the car is driven frequently then once a year is not too often.

Re: Air conditioning experiences
Fuses open when the current exceeds the fuse rating. I believe the relay coil circuit is on a different fuse than the power circuit through the relay contacts, so the relay would not be causing the issue you are seeing. The issue is your fan/resister is drawing too much current, or your fuse is unde...

I believe Chrysler used only oval bellows.
But I think my point stands: The bellows type servos were not at all common on American cars.

Re: Series 1 3.8 brake servo bellows replacement.
Or maybe none at all. Seriously, in the last 60 years can’t recall ever seeing a mainstream American car with the bellows type servo as used on the 3.8 E. If any did use that type of servo, I would say it was very few and mostly likely 1950’s vintage. Edit: Some American cars did use remote servos a...
